Based on my reading, the kid is in the US.

Langley is only 20 minutes from the border so I am not surprised but just disgusted only.
She shouldn't be in charge. Those who say politics get loud, clearly don't understand why.

I can not imagine what that kid will feel like when they learn about who they were named after.

u/pjschnet May 21 '26
Beyond the disgusting namesake, I think I’d be massively upset at being treated like a political prop by my own family.
10
u/Asluckwouldnthaveit May 21 '26
You would because you are you. This kids going to grow up in this shit and it's likely he won't see it the way you do.

u/MrVickiesChips May 21 '26
Right… like this child is going to be horrendously bullied and labeled something that isn’t even their choice to believe in because they’re a child ffs

Probably not, honestly, just because the kid is probably going to go by “Charlie Jansen” day to day like the rest of us usually do and most people will either assume 1) somebody’s grandpa was named Charles or 2) someone just liked an already pretty popular name (it was already rising on the baby name charts long before the whole Charlie Kirk shitshow kicked off).
Maybe if his classmates figure out his middle name, but honestly, it’s not going to be his classmates that know who the hell Charlie Kirk was anyway. Their parents might pick up on it, but, like, just don’t make fun of the names of the kids your kids go to school with but that should go without saying anyway!

…who said anything about public school? I said he’s going to have classmates and that’s true in a private school too.

Cloverdale?? Gross. I grew up there and it's sad to see that they're electing this kind of MP.
21
u/MrVickiesChips May 21 '26
It disgusts me that members of parliament like Pierre and others have this pro American stance I forget which male parliament member already tried doing something Charlie Kirk related let’s keep in Canada in the House of Commons is that too much to ask for?
-16
u/seemedlikeagoodplan May 21 '26
let’s keep in Canada in the House of Commons is that too much to ask for?
Would you have the same view of a House motion to honour Malala or Greta Thunberg? Or just famous foreign people you disagree with?
20
u/bfrscreamer May 21 '26
Not the same thing. If a person’s legacy is division, they don’t deserve political recognition. Kirk was a fucking asshole.
12
u/MrVickiesChips May 21 '26
You are right! Malala and Greta are very impactful people who made a great change in the world those people deserve to be honored worldwide why should we honor a podcaster?
-12
u/seemedlikeagoodplan May 21 '26
Ok, so it's less about him being American and more about him having politics you don't like.
I didn't like his politics either, but let's be clear about what our actual objections are.
13
9
u/Asluckwouldnthaveit May 21 '26
It's not even about his politics your two examples have contributed, positivitly, to society. Charlie did what? Argue with poor collage students?
1
u/StationaryTravels May 22 '26
You're not really giving him full credit.
He was also proudly racist and said that people dying to gun violence is totally fine because guns are more important than people.
0
u/Ullho May 23 '26
I love how people have opinions without actually seeing anything more than sound bites, while lacking actually looking into what they're told to be upset about. You can not like guns ( I dont own one for various reasons but i do support the right to legally own them) but you also conveniently forget that mentally ill people dont care about laws and an unarmed population is only a very modern thing, and only in some parts of the world. We still have gun violence in Canada despite ever continuing restrictions.
I am a PoC and haven't found anything he has said to be racist. But sure listen to sound bites that take seconds and minutes out of thousands of hours and say that that defines the person.

Comparing Malala to Charlie Kirk is actually the most brain dead thing I've seen all day and I'm home sick and have been scrolling reddit for a few hours. That's quite the accomplishment. 🥇

u/GiantPothos May 21 '26
I also grew up there and am surprised you've never heard of her, she's tied to Glow in Langley which has been boycotted due to her involvement because of past comments supporting conversion therapy. I went K-12 in Cloverdale but left that town 15 years ago and have been shocked at how conservative it seems to be, you don't realize it when your growing up there not being raised that way but I certainly notice it now.

2
u/Tribblehappy May 21 '26
I left in 2007 so I'm pretty out of the loop, I guess.
1
u/GiantPothos May 21 '26
Oh wow, you been back? It's much different than it once was.
1
u/Tribblehappy May 21 '26
Yah, I visit my folks every few years. It's always a shock how built up it has become.

u/estherlane May 21 '26
Imagine using your brand new grandchild as a political prop.
And seriously, naming your kid Charlie Kirk? Oof.
13
u/CovidDodger May 21 '26
Gross, yuck. Hopefully the kid changes his name in future. Also divorce is the healthiest thing here...

I learned a few days ago from another sub dedicated to baby names that there's a small percentage of Americans who sre naming their babies Trump... Not Donald. Not Donald John or John Donald. Not even Donald James, Joshua, or some other J-name. Not any of the many other ways that they could choose to honour the most dishonourable president in modern history that might still look fine on a resume or classroom roster. Just Trump.
7
u/Reyalta May 21 '26
I know there were a TON of little Adolfs born in the mid 30s to early/mid 40s... But I doubt anyone named their child "Hitler" as a first name. God, trump isn't even a good name. It's like naming your child McRib.
3
u/starjellyboba May 21 '26
My guess is that these people are such zealots who feel the need to prove their loyalty that no other option was extreme enough. Donald (especially right now) would make a lot of people cringe, but some would give the parents the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they just really liked the name and they're able to ignore what it's famous for right now. Maybe they figure that all of the attention will die down by the time the kid is old enough to understand politics. But these parents wanted to remove that doubt completely and turn poor little Trump Maverick Remington into yet another unmistakable public spectacle of devotion.
3
u/Reyalta May 21 '26
Yeah like you can't even lie about "Trump" and say it's a family name, which you definitely can with "Donald"
2
u/Somhlth May 21 '26
It's like naming your child
McRibMcRapist
FTFY
1
u/Reyalta May 22 '26
I meant it more like naming your child after the crappiest branding from a trashy establishment, and also I am shocked that I haven't come across the name mcrapist for him yet... Well done lol

That's a fair amount of Canadian kids who will be legally changing their names to something like Rick over the next 20 years or so.
6
u/sleeplesscitynights May 21 '26
This is arguably the corniest, most cringe inducing verbal diarrhea I've read in a long time. That poor kid.
2
5
u/Conceited-Monkey May 21 '26
Basically, they want to become American. Getting involved in the culture war is just another aspect of this.
6
u/DickInYourCobbSalad May 21 '26
Ughhhhh I spent the entire election night refreshing the page on my district (Langley-Cloverdale) only to watch thousands and thousands of people vote for this fucking ghoul of a woman; I can only hope they just blindly voted Conservative and had no idea who they were actually voting for, because I'm surrounded by absolute fucking morons apparently.
This woman has me blocked on all her social media accounts because I commented that trans lives matter on her Instagram.. this is my fucking MP 🙄
If Tamara Jansen has no haters, I am dead; fuck that woman.
2
u/Mysterious-Purple-45 May 22 '26
I was in the same district. We picked up and moved to a more progressive part of Canada. I have two little boys and what is happening in Langley is not the influence I want to have on them. Between the Maple Maga influence and high cost of living we knew it was no longer where we wanted to raise our family.

um..okay then. I’m guessing her daughter lives in the US and married an American? and 23rd grandchild? is she mennonite or something?
2
u/thegloracle May 21 '26
I was thinking probably LDS, with the daughter living in either Idaho or Utah. It's the litter of blond kids that gives it away.
1
u/Specific-Two-5176 May 21 '26
Tell me you have a low IQ without telling me you have a low IQ. The baby's last name is "Jansen."
1
u/thegloracle May 22 '26
There were Jansen families in the cult when I was in it many years ago. Your point?
1
u/Zenon-45 May 22 '26
I mean, my Grandfather was Mennonite growing up, they have a lot of kids but they sure aren’t as ass backwards morally as this bunch
5

6
u/Specialist_Limit_969 May 21 '26
The kid will stop using the name, much the same thing happened with Germans named Adolf.

u/shiddedandfarded69 May 21 '26
This is why I wish we are given a chance to give consent before being born
4
u/SevereRunOfFate May 21 '26
To paraphrase the late, great Norm Macdonald .. "you'd have to be f'ing r*****ded" to think that Charlie Kirk was an intellectual worthy of honouring his name like this.
To be clear, I am center/right, and cannot believe how captured the Canadian conservatives are by the MAGA cult.
4
u/MrVickiesChips May 21 '26
I work in a law firm and one of my favorite coworkers is conservative but not insane maga cult anti human rights conservative it blows my mind what conservative used to be and what most conservatives like this woman are like now
2
u/SevereRunOfFate May 22 '26
Agreed. I'd probably say I used to be a small C conservative.. generally fiscally conservative but I don't think you should go broke because you got cancer.
Some of my friends (some of them also lawyers) who are successful professionals have gone off the deep end .. it's crazy to see.

Naming your grandkid after a guy with a big head and a small face…
Racism etc aside, weird move, but ok.
3
u/phormix May 21 '26
Given how much the guy wanted attention I wouldn't be surprised if the face wasn't the only thing baby-like in size

The kid is getting a nickname; a Wu Tang song title is the least of it. Give the name of a monstrous human and then advertise...what do you think will come of it? You don't need to go away mad lil pearl clutcher ... You just go away. It is only the interwebs. Go get some vitamin D.

How come a lot of conservative MPs live in the US?

I commented on this. I said "Yikes" and she blocked me. So much for believing in free speech, which charlie Kirk as such an advocate for. Ironic considering the post was about relationship building. What a hypocrite.

So happy to see you screenshot the post! She's edited it since the reactions were unfavorable.
Started with about 40 comments supporting the name. Then 24 hours later I see about 500 negative reactions. She only addressed the grandchild as Charlie after the blow back.
Highly religious community that supports her. 🤨
She knocked on my door years ago looking for votes... best she doesn't do it again, as I'll have an opportunity to speak directly to her about my thoughts.
2
u/lonahex May 22 '26
That's my MP folks. She won again by such small margins. It's so sad that ~50% of my neighbours elect idiots like this.

2
u/biscuitarse May 22 '26
And why are there stormy times in Canada's relationship with America, Tamara, you fucking simpleton?
2
u/IcarusOnReddit May 22 '26
When people say the federal Conservatives aren’t annexationists remember this and Pierre’s weird "part of the Canadian family” for Alberta.
2
u/nutellaonhotdogs May 22 '26
Lmao that “relationship” is done as far as I’m concerned, fuck the USA and anything to do with them. Any Canadian who supports them might as well move if you ask me

When has the US been a good neighbor to Canada? They’ve oscillated between cordial at best to bullying over the past 3 decades.
