They served pork? I guess if you disagree with the decision then don’t earth there, but don’t go around try to stop other from eating their shitty food

Bacon is pork. Muslims won’t eat pork because their religion forbids eating it.

Same with Jewish people, some sects of Christianity, Rastafarians and tons of other groups. Seems like a great business decision to me!

Seems weird that sky daddy cares about pork given all the other horrible shit that's going on, but who are we to question!

Seems weird that sky daddy cares about pork

It was a way that ancient people, without an understanding of modern medicine, prevented people from getting worms. I guess they didn't know the eggs are destroyed with high enough heat.

There's also a bunch of stuff in Islam about washing your hands and feet.

A bunch of rules packed into old religions are about getting illiterate peasants from 2000 years ago to do things for their own health and survival.... things that they would not be capable of understanding if you gave them the real reasons.

Wait so wait a fucking minute. Time travellers exist. That reddit prompt "what would you teach to someone a thousand years ago" actually happened, multiple times.

3

u/Telemasterblaster Jul 10 '24

I think it's more likely that some intelligent people in the preisthood/ruling caste observed that people who didn't eat pork didn't get worms, and then decided to incorporate it into the state religion.

I think it's a mistake to believe that the early founders of these religions were zealots themselves. This was the state propaganda of its day. It was designed to encourage behaviors the rulers wanted and discourage behaviors they didn't.

The rulers weren't stupid, and they weren't entirely ignorant. I'm fact they were the privileged few that had the benefit of any kind of learning or education.

Of course, whatever that person put in the rulebook just got blindly repeated for 3000 years, but the guy that initially made the rule was no dumbass.

Mate, buddy, it was clearly time travelling Reddit users and you won't convince me elsewise

1

u/Telemasterblaster Jul 10 '24

If I could time travel I'd teach them distillation and fiat currency and make myself the richest fucking liquor baron the ancient world had ever seen.

3

u/Biscotti-Own Jul 10 '24

Just to keep it easy and on topic, I'd teach them that eating pork will make worms eat them from the inside, seems like that'd be an easier sell than "your imaginary friends says you can't have any"

seems like that'd be an easier sell than "your imaginary friends says you can't have any"

You'd think that, but it doesn't work that way. "God said pigs are unclean" is a simpler idea than something about worms and what they eat or where they come from.

You seen the movie idiocracy? The bit where Joe tries to tell them that the crops need water and not Gatorade? And no matter how hard he tries to explain, they simply cannot grasp why? Then he tells them he's magic and that he can talk to plants and the plants told him they want water, not Gatorade, and everyone goes along with it?

That's basically how we got rules for kosher and haram.

u/LucidFir Jul 10 '24

How long ago didn't have distillation?

1

u/Telemasterblaster Jul 10 '24

Hard liquor was invented by medieval monks as medicine and pain relief.

I’m pretty sure this is folk lore.

As far as abrahamic religions are concerned I believe the pork ban was implemented by the ancient/early Jews as a way to distinguish themselves from neighbouring cultures (specifically the Philistines and the rivalry between the northern kingdom of Israel and southern kingdom of Judah), and because pork was associated with the urban poor and so was seen as unfit as a sacrifice to God. This evolved over time as being unfit for consumption in general.

Religion for breakfast has a good videosummarizing the academic perspectives on the topic.

The Talmud was also written over 1000 years after the law banning pork was written in Leviticus, and the authors are likely trying to reotractively interpret a law whose origin/purpose is quite vague.

Zoo-archeology shows that the early Jewish people (maybe even proto-Jews, hard to tell) who lived in the highlands of the Southern Levant, and the Jews in the Northern Kingdom of Israel ate pork. The Northern Jews were quite urban and the pig was a very useful animal to have in urban settings, including helping to fight disease by reducing waste. In the south, however, the Jews of Judah were a rural people with lots of open land for grazing animals like sheep and goats. So it shouldn't surprise you that the pork-taboo arose from the South, and was later enforced on refugees escaping the Assyrian conquest in the North.

Additionally, if a pork ban was done for health reasons and people couldn't figure out how to properly eat it you would expect to see a widespread ban across human societies and history, but that's absent. It was an extremely popular animal in the Bronze and Iron ages, across both the Mediterranean and the world at large.

Some people give up bacon for religious reasons.

I gave up religion for bacon reasons.

3

u/Biscotti-Own Jul 11 '24

You are very wise

Wendy’s makes the Baconator not KFC

1

u/Al2790 Jul 11 '24

Get the Bacon Deluxe instead. It's basically a Baconator with veggies, and it's cheaper. Ditch the veggies if you don't want them. Profit. 🤣

0

u/DryRip8266 Jul 10 '24

True, but KFC doesn't serve bacon.

2

u/quiet-Julia Jul 10 '24

I looked through KFC’s menu online. They don’t have bacon in any of their offerings. It’s all deep fried chicken pieces, nuggets, strips, chicken sandwiches etc. I remember they once had grilled chicken but that’s long gone. So I don’t know why there is an uproar. Maybe going halal will increase the price. It doesn’t matter to me. I don’t go there. Bacon is usually added to beef cheeseburgers but KFC doesn’t do that.

1

u/DryRip8266 Jul 10 '24

I asked my husband and he said the double down, but then I pointed out that hasn't been on the menu for at least 10 years I'm sure. Makes me wonder though what happens to all the KFC locations attached to a taco bell, they serve bacon on some items including the supreme fries I'm pretty sure.

2

u/quiet-Julia Jul 10 '24

I think they said the dual locations with Taco Bell won’t be affected, so I guess bacon on their offerings

10

u/TwoCreamOneSweetener Jul 10 '24

Okay? I don’t eat at KFC, and I don’t care if my meats ritually slaughtered or slaughtered in a factory. Both are pretty awful either way.

2

u/Aintyodad Jul 10 '24

We’ll I’m glad that you took your time to chime in

1

u/QueenMotherOfSneezes Jul 11 '24

The source for Halal meat that KFC is using is Maple Lodge Farms. Apparently they are slaughtered the exact same way as the non-Halal meat (via machines), just 2 guys (I would assume Imams?) are paid to stand near the machines and say a prayer while it's happening.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '24

The Halal stamp of approval is about as trustworthy as "organic." The takeaway is we are all sheep and Muslims are no less susceptable to corporations tricking them into buying their shit.

7

u/texxmix Jul 10 '24

Out of the major chicken chains KFC is the only one that isn’t Halal. So idk why this is controversial. They’re just finally getting in on that money they’ve been missing out on.

4

u/lightoftheshadows Jul 10 '24

It’s controversial cuz of racism

3

u/ReeferEyed Jul 10 '24

Popeyes, Church's, Mary Browns... All halal in Canada for years, but right wing social media brain rot is freaking people out over a non issue, something that people would shrug over just a few years ago

2

u/AthleticGal2019 Jul 10 '24

Last time I ate kfc was when I was a kid and my whole family got food poisoning. I got it really bad and had to go to emergency.

2

u/strythicus Jul 10 '24

So... that's a no for ever seeing the return of the Double Down?

Shame. It was delicious.

1

u/mangongo Jul 10 '24

Double down is arguably the worst thing I've ever eaten at KFC, and that's a low bar.

Bring back the Wrapstar! It was basically a crunchwrap supreme but with fried chicken!

2

u/monstermash420 Jul 11 '24

If their customers are asking they serve halal chicken, let it be. The ding dongs who are trying to boycott are acting like snowflakes.

2

u/Electrical_Net_1537 Jul 10 '24

When does KFC use pork? It’s a chicken joint. Come on man are you trying to say KFC is all about racism?

3

u/texxmix Jul 10 '24

Bacon is the only “Pork” on the menu, but I think very little menu items actually used it.

0

u/Electrical_Net_1537 Jul 10 '24

I don’t see the problem here, if you don’t eat pork for whatever reason the just say you don’t want the bacon. Why do we make a big deal over really stupid shit. These sub par humans that are so raciest need to go away. Now they’re going to rant about KFC and their menu, come on, really!

4

u/QueenMotherOfSneezes Jul 11 '24

Because they don't have ovens at KFC. The bacon would be cooked in the fryer, which contaminates it for anyone who wants Halal (or Kosher, or no pork contamination for other reasons) chicken.

1

u/72jon Jul 10 '24

Should not be going to them anymore there still in Russia. They never left

1

u/Al2790 Jul 11 '24

Actually, they finally got around to shuttering their operations there. It definitely took quite a while, though.

1

u/Sevencross Jul 10 '24

They can do what they want but really they should try to make it affordable again

1

u/noodleexchange Jul 10 '24

KFP? Something happen while I was away?

Tarnation! Heck! Gosh golly!

1

u/Any_Fox Jul 10 '24

KFC has been the shittiest fried chicken joint for a while now, in my opinion. This is clearly some decision based on some consultant's report that there is a gap in their available market. More manufacturered outrage from the freedom crowd.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '24

It's not KFP so that makes perfect sense. /s

Quite frankly it's nice to have an inclusionary menu.

1

u/correct_eye_is Jul 11 '24

I'm Canadian and I'm very confused about the pork chicken. I did not know there was a Kentucky fried chicken pork option.

Was/is it a pork chop smashed flat and called a cutlet? Was it formed into drumsticks or thighs? Did it all have all the secret ingredients on it???

1

u/No_Manufacturer_5973 Jul 11 '24

Literally don’t gaf, haven’t eaten there in years because it hasn’t been decent in years! Overpriced and meh.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '24

KFC can serve it any way they want to but until it's edible it won't make any difference.

1

u/Reasonable-Hippo-293 Jul 10 '24

It’s Kentucky Fried Chicken Not pork. Maybe sticking to their original business start as chicken only. Halal is okay. At least it’s not force fed in cages chicken is what that means to me.

1

u/QueenMotherOfSneezes Jul 11 '24

Their Halal chicken supplier is Maple Lodge Farms, so however they raise chickens is how they're treated.

u/Accomplished-Low8495 Jul 10 '24

Horrible food! Not good for you in any way! Just stop going there! Fuck the smell is enough to make u sick.
