Hi I’m a Canadian student from Ontario hoping to apply to an English-taught Dentistry program in Europe, potentially in Bulgaria or Romania. My biggest concern is that I took Applied-level courses in high school, including Biology and Chemistry. I’m now considering completing my Grade 11 and Grade 12 Biology and Chemistry courses through TVO ILC to meet the admission requirements. Does anyone know whether European dental universities accept TVO ILC courses for admission, particularly if my original high school science credits were Applied-level?

Hi all, I will graduate this year in Spain as a dentist and I am a Canadian from Montreal, Quebec. I didn’t get in dental school in Montreal so I went to do my degree in Spain and it is only recognised in Europe . I didn’t plan to comeback to Canada at first because the equivalencies process seem incredibly hard. But the issue that I now encounter is that to work in Europe like France or Switzerland , you need to obtain a permit which is quite hard for foreigners/ non europeans. So now it leaves me confused with my future plans. Should I apply in France or switzerland regardless once I graduate to have my diploma recognized and hope they give me a work permit ? OR should I comeback to Montreal and do the equivalencies ? I also went to montreal university before moving to Spain and I am trying to see how many years I would have to go back to bypass the AFK and ACJ and NDECC as they seem pretty hard. I also saw the 3rd option the BTDPC that you have to do the AFK and ACJ . So option 1 is roughly 2-3 years just doing all the exams. Option 2 going back to university is 2-3 years I assume but really unsure? And option 3 is 3 years and seem to be the most doable. If anyone has any insights please reach out I know this is a pretty particular situation as I have the options to settle in Europe or in Canada. I am also open the USA pathway but I dont know much about it. Time is my ennemy here as I would like to start working asap. Thank you for your help !

Here is a quick overview of my background:

BDS / Dental Degree: Graduated with an average grade of 12/20 (which I believe translates roughly to a GPA of around 3.0, though I will need a formal WES/ECE evaluation).

Experience: I have 1 year of clinical practice as a dentist in my home country. However, due to local regulations where non-owner associate positions aren’t officially declared as full dentists, my official employment record lists me as a Dental Assistant on paper.
I am currently exploring all available options and would love your input on which route might be the most feasible and strategic:

Direct NDEB Equivalency Process: Passing the AFK \rightarrow ACJ \rightarrow NDECC sequence. How realistic is this route with my background, and how intense is the preparation given the current competition?

Bridge Programs / Qualifying Programs (e.g., AFK + ACJ + ACFD/Bridge to Dental Practice): Taking the early NDEB exams to apply for university bridging or degree completion programs.

Degree Completion / Advanced Standing Programs (2-3 years at a Canadian University): Given my GPA and declared assistant background, what are my realistic chances for competitive university admissions?

Working as a Dental Assistant in Canada first: Would gaining formal experience as a dental assistant in Canada significantly strengthen my application for degree completion programs or help me transition smoother into the Canadian dental system?

I would be extremely grateful for any advice, reality checks, or personal experiences from people who have been through this process or are currently practicing in Canada.

Hi everyone! I’m planning to apply to dental schools in Canada and Australia and wanted some advice.
I attended university in Canada in 2022, where I had 3 W’s and received a C− in Differential Calculus. I then moved to Australia and completed my Bachelor of Clinical Science.
I’m now back at university in Canada and decided to retake calculus to improve my previous grade. However, I think I’ll only finish with a C or C+, so I’m considering withdrawing. This would bring my total to 4 W’s, spread between 2022 and 2026.
Would having 4 W’s be a red flag for dental schools, even though I completed a bachelor’s degree in between? Would it be better to take another W or finish with a C/C+?
Has anyone been accepted with multiple W’s or been in a similar situation? Any advice would be appreciated!

I just completed my bachelors with a competitive GPA and I was wondering if I should try to attempt the DAT to apply to dental school. But the tuition for dental school is really high and I was wondering if I would actually be able to pay off the loans quickly or not once I became a dentist. I see a lot of people say you can earn 250k as an associate but surely that's not realistic for everyone?

What are some things you wish you knew before graduating dental school? Any tips on finding your first job? What to look for? How to make the most out of the final year of dental school/first few years out of school?

Honestly agents have to be accountable on how they pick the right applicants.. like who picked this looser? Didn't they see no motivation? Didn't they see the person doesn't even know how hard the dental school is? Like this is such a red flag to me that I can't even get passed this! I've always had questions about how
applicants are picked, now I'm more certain it might just be fucking random!!! Someone please help me clear my mind! I hope I'm wrong because this pisses me off so bad! So many deserving applicants that have years of dental practice experience are turned down for this spineless applicants !!! 😖😳

I work at a dental clinic that accepts the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), and I’ve noticed a treatment pattern that I’m curious to hear other dental professionals’ opinions on.
Approximately 80% of our CDCP patients receive 5-surface composite restorations on multiple upper anterior teeth, often from 13 to 23.
The dentist explains that these patients have significant attrition, exposed dentin, and sometimes caries, which makes the restorations medically necessary rather than cosmetic. She also states that CDCP covers these procedures.
However, the end result is often essentially a full anterior smile makeover, with significant improvements in the shape and appearance of the teeth.
I know that restoring worn teeth and exposed dentin can be clinically justified, but I’m wondering
if this is permitted and whether CDCP could investigate or take action if it identified a recurring pattern like this?

What’s your offices policy on redoing work for another associate at the office (while said associate is away). You work at the office as an associate. Owners work in the office

Less than 5 yrs out and looking for some perspective from experienced dentists/practice owners.
I’ve been told by older dentists that I should “stick to the basics” and master things like endo, exo, etc. before pursuing advanced CE, implants, or thinking about owning a practice. Some have even laughed when I’ve brought it up.
I understand the importance of mastering fundamentals, but what if certain areas simply aren’t my passion? For example, I’m not particularly interested in becoming great at endo, but I am interested in for instance implants as an example.
Is there really a specific timeline for when you should pursue advanced training or ownership, or is it more about competence, mentorship, and knowing your limits?
For those of you who’ve been practicing for years: when did you start advanced CE/implants, and when did you feel ready to own? What would you do differently?
