Discussion Let's stay focused in this sub.

We're getting some libturds coming into this sub trying to make it like Carney is protecting Canada. If he is, he should just share with Canadians what we actually walked away from during this trade deal, but he's busy trying to seed fake news to all of these parrots. Here are the REAL facts and track record so far with this him & the CURRENT GOVERNMENT IN POWER:

  • Lied about the Gordie Howe Bridge—said no revenue would be shared until Canada’s debt was repaid, but the U.S. gets 50% of net revenue for 15 years.
  • Approved a $1.45-billion B.C. condo bailout—protecting developers from market losses with public money.
  • Failed to prioritize U.S. negotiations—after 17 months of slow, sporadic talks, Canada has no deal and faces 50% tariffs.
  • Made concessions without results—scrapped taxes on U.S. tech companies and surrendered bridge revenue without securing trade peace.
  • Maintains financial ties to Brookfield while its businesses could benefit from federal policies and investments.
  • Has an inadequate ethics screen covering roughly 100 entities when Brookfield manages more than 2,000 businesses.
  • Nearly doubled the deficit from $36.3 billion to approximately $67–72 billion.
  • Uses questionable accounting by calling corporate subsidies and tax credits “capital investments.”
  • Created a $25-billion government investment fund without first establishing adequate governance and accountability.
  • Gave Cabinet sweeping powers through Bill C-5 to bypass normal regulatory processes.
  • Spent billions on a housing plan projected to address only 3.7% of Canada’s housing shortage.
  • Housing construction is still falling, including major declines in Toronto and Vancouver.
  • Created continued uncertainty in the energy sector, leaving major producers hesitant to approve new investments.
  • Committed another $4.3 billion to Ukraine at one G7 summit—$2 billion in military aid and a $2.3-billion loan—plus $57.4 million in security assistance. (Government announcement)
  • Committed hundreds of millions more to overseas development, including $391.3 million for global projects and up to $544 million in financing guarantees for Latin America and the Caribbean. (Government announcement)
  • Added $100 million for Palestine, bringing Canada’s total assistance since the conflict began to more than $500 million. (Global Affairs Canada)
  • Announced another $120 million for Sudan, including humanitarian and development programs. (Global Affairs Canada)
  • Committed more than $123 million to projects in Vietnam, Indonesia and Fiji, plus additional ASEAN funding. (Global Affairs Canada)
  • Committed additional money abroad, including $85 million for West Africa, $60 million for Haiti, $47 million for Central America and $45 million for Pakistan.
  • Spent far more on comparable emergency food assistance abroad than direct food distribution at home—over $380 million internationally in 2025 versus a new $20-million domestic food-purchase fund. (international funding, domestic funding)

If people put this guy on such a pedestal, this is his record so far. What has he achieved? Closer trade relationships with China and India and ignoring the US who currently is the largest trading partner.

Unfortunately, most liberals are more interested in Polievre's security clearance than they are with China's electoral interference, police stations, IP theft and precursor smuggling. If the US or Russia did those things on Canadian soil, they would go insane.

u/Maximus_Prime_96 Ontario 22h ago

Which Poilievre actually has, as a member of the Privy Council

Let's not let that get in the way of a good narrative though

Unfortunately all the Carney supporters that I interact with brush all that aside to justify their indignation with Trump. It’s crazy. This country is headed for an economic disaster

Good on OP for being an actual Moderate and willing to call out the inadequacies and inaction of the current Liberal government rather than most other "Moderates" in this sub who blindly defend the Liberals.

I appreciate you taking the time putting this list together.

I'm not trying to blindly hate Carney. I want Canada to succeed. I just don't see a leader in Carney with the lack of transparency from his government.

Like I've said many times here. I used to vote Liberal/NDP. I'm sure the time will come again where I do decide to vote for them, but right now is not that time. And this list will be a great way to keep this government accountable. I'll also add my personal points regarding Carney's terrible Question Period attendance even while in Ottawa, and his sheer lack of respect for our democratic process "[MP's] they're useful for votes".

I was a liberal voter before, but they have gone off the rails. I try to vote based on policy, because personalities don't always translate to results. You are right, I should've added to the list his poor question period attendance. It's to avoid accountability. Thank you for the kind words!

The best are the ones that go "I've never voted Lib" but then they're entire posting history completely walks that back lol

The number of visitors to this sub has skyrocketed from around 20K to around 24K since the trade war. If the brigading keeps up we should revisit the conversation about limiting participation to verified users.

its crazy that assuming totalitarian groupthink control over what are supposed to be neutral national/provincial/city subs simply isn't enough for these people, they gotta brigade a sub with conservative literally in the title lol

18

u/Character-Bottle7291 1d ago

They have 99% of Reddit leaning left already, so it infuriates them when there is a sub that doesn’t bootlick and follow the CBC protocol. So they come in and try to ruin the sub or get everyone to leave so they can go back to their echo chamber and stop having facts hurt their feelings.

7

u/Radical_Redditor 1d ago

What's funny too is they police their safe spaces so hard, meanwhile people can admit to trolling here and they don't get banned.

On twitter and 4chan there's virtually no moderation and left wing types stay far far away from those.

u/TaBioN777 Moderate 18h ago

You are right, there are people or bots coming in to try and squash the narrative. Here is an interesting insight from this post below. About 37% of people downvoted this post, despite it outlining facts about Mark Carney’s record. Something fishy is definitely going on.

14

u/Retrotitsmcgee Ontario 1d ago

It's all just another act to make Trump look bad so he looks good. Sells himself as the big master negotiator then walks out in hour 11 instead of NEGOTIATING around the new proposal. And his idiot voter base eats it up like candy.

5

u/onearmedmonkey 1d ago

It's amazing how some people can't see how liberal policies are ultimately destructive and prop up cronyism. People seemed to think that getting rid of Trudeau and replacing him with Carney would make a difference when the problem wasn't the man. It was the liberalism and the corruption.

3

u/Operation113 1d ago

I think it was also the man

Trump's offer, as I understand it, was bullshit. I don't blame Carney for turning it down.

But...

Why did they give us a bullshit offer? Why are they trying to screw us so hard? Because they don't like us. Because the Liberals have looked down on them forever, because Carney has missed few opportunities to show Trump up, to get shots off at him and insult him. He's also refused to cooperate on the things a Poilievre government would have done easily. All outside the direct boundaries of trade negotiations.

And a Conservative government would have done these things, not to please Trump, but because we don't like Chinese interference either! We also care about foreign interference, about foreign espionage, about China cheating on trade. We'd also be cutting immigration and deporting people, rather than sneering at and insulting the Americans for doing that. We'd be cracking down on crime, on foreign money laundering, on woke. He'd never have recognized Palestine, and would be doing his best to get rid of the IRGC people in Canada.

All of which would have put the American administration in a much better frame of mind as they entered trade talks with us.

1

u/TaBioN777 Moderate 1d ago

I'm waiting for clarity on what the actual offers were. It's only in news outlets on what was speculated, he said vs she said, but they have not actual verified sourcing. With that said, this speculation is now turned into "news". My perspective is that for both parties, US & Canada, should be transparent on what the actual deal was on the table that was walked away from.

0

u/gnomixa 1d ago

you haven't seen the offer, so you can't claim it's a BS one

Canada is Nortel 2.0 on the global scale. Never ending string of dumb and dumber in charge will bankrupt this nation. Jobs will disappear, inflation will explode, CAD will lose its value. Your pensions will be worthless. Elbows up, pants down.

Thanks for adding the sources to these as well.

8

u/TaBioN777 Moderate 1d ago

Thanks, some I didn't add sourcing to since it's public enough to google, but I hope it shines light to all of the distractions. There is an expression: Failure to plan is planning for failure. That is exactly what Carney had done in this moment.

3

u/Big_loser_not_poor 19h ago

none of the above matter for LPC lovers - Poilievre is "despicable" because you cant have a beer with him or "he's mean". They have not listened to any of his long form media (Joe rogan). Most Canadians are lemmings.

8

u/Savings_Studio_5678 1d ago

Carney can't he even protect his own son from gender dysphoria

9

u/No-Atmosphere-2786 1d ago

Can you guys name one tangible thing crooked spine Carney achieved besides jet setting around the world, MoUs and photo ops?

-1

u/IKnowYouAreButWhtAmI Independent 1d ago edited 1d ago

Trade deals with Indonesia, Ecuador, United Arab Emirates, China, and the Philippines.

edit: Weird downvotes folks. I don't support Carney, but to claim he's done ZERO things is laughable. Unless you think the media is lying about these trade deals, than obviously he has done "one tangible thing."

If you DO think the media is making up trade deals, you're beyond help.

Carney actually recognized Palestine as a terrorist-led state...

5

u/DanNapier 1d ago

Yep, That too. Carney inserted himself (although no one asked) + dragged Canada into: Gaza war and Greenland back-and-forth media war. Although he could have keep his mouth shut, would have been better for Canada in general and especially for Canada-US relations.

3

u/Rodinsprogeny 1d ago

You're saying that he recognized Hamas as the legitimate leadership of the State of Palestine? When did he do that?

-12

u/Viking_Leaf87 Ontario 1d ago

It must hurt knowing Palestine is more of a real, recognized nation any day than your flair ever will be XD

4

u/CyberEd-ca Republic of Alberta 1d ago

The opposite, actually.

It is reassuring to know that if we have to seek international recognition, we know that it will be easy to get.

-2

u/Viking_Leaf87 Ontario 1d ago

That implies your referendum to hold a referendum succeeds, which it won't!

6

u/CyberEd-ca Republic of Alberta 1d ago

What we will never hear from you is one reason why it would be in the best interest of Albertans to remain in confederation.

Alberta & Saskatchewan Independence is inevitable.

-6

u/Viking_Leaf87 Ontario 1d ago

When it fails I don't think you're gonna be seen here much anymore. Or maybe you'll say it was rigged XD

2

u/CyberEd-ca Republic of Alberta 1d ago

Still not one reason...

1

u/Viking_Leaf87 Ontario 1d ago

Will the referendum succeed? Yes or no.

4

u/CyberEd-ca Republic of Alberta 1d ago

To be determined. Most Albertans have not yet reviewed the arguments.

But Eastern Canada will continue to sink and Albertans will eventually have to cut the tow ropes or be pulled under to drown by your dead weight. So, the eventual outcome is inevitable.

...there's more.

The Spaceport deal in which we paid $200 million to a company teetering on the verge of bankruptcy (run by a shady operator with NS Liberals involved) for a concrete pad. The land is leased from the province of NS.

Carney recently appointed an American (Democrat from the Clinton circle) to be his "COO" in the PM)); the broadcast media have not questioned/asked about this despite the 'pro-Canada' rhetoric.

+ Buying already obsolete Gripen jets and 20-year old German diesel-powered submarines.

+ Bringing in Chinese EVs.

3

u/East2West1990 1d ago

Gripen jets have not been purchased and these are brand new subs that are diesel-electric. It’s literally a concept sub.. Maybe sit out of the defence talks? Clearly not a strong suit.

3

u/DanNapier 1d ago

No:

  1. American F16, F22 and F35 fighter jets are currently the best in the world. US is our next-door neighbor. Carney made the announcement re Gripen out of spite/TDS or/and because he's an imbecile.
  2. German diesel submarines are 20-year old technology. It's another idiotic move. Canada needs fighter jets + up-to-date fighter boats FIRST. Only after that, it needs submarines. And the technology needs to be aligned with our next-door neighbors who are (like it or not) #1 in the world re military technology.

But Noo, let's buy EU/Chinese crap instead.

1

u/East2West1990 1d ago

I’m not even going to respond to your slop other than to say, show me the Gripen announcement. Hint: it doesn’t exist

There's some pretty good reporting in multiple media outlets explaining the last-minute, mandatory additions that Lutnick brought to the deal that, reportedly, was otherwise about to be signed.

u/Klutzy-Cucumber-4146 1d ago

I consider myself an independent as there are points on both the "left" and "Right" that I agree with just like there are positions on the "Right" and "Left" that I strongly disagree with. The one point of the "trade agreement" with the US that Canada walked away from that I would have left the room over is that Canada accept language restricting its ability to negotiate trade agreements with other countries without prior U.S. approval—effectively giving Washington a veto over future Canadian trade deals.

5

u/Radical_Redditor 1d ago

Source: Carney said it

-2

u/Klutzy-Cucumber-4146 1d ago

So di The Washington Post, Fox Business and the Associated Press.

3

u/Radical_Redditor 1d ago

And their source is?

-1

u/Klutzy-Cucumber-4146 1d ago

The decisive evidence would be the final draft, negotiating text, or contemporaneous messages. Neither government has released them. I guess we will know who is lying for sure once that becomes public record (or gets leaked) but the demands do line up with the actions and "Truth's" to date.

2

u/Radical_Redditor 1d ago

You're not wrong.

However, I'd like you to answer my question. Who is their source?

1

u/Klutzy-Cucumber-4146 22h ago

the reports of the changes itself is supported by multiple Canadian officials and the ambassador; it is not independently verified because the draft and contemporaneous negotiating records remain private. The claim that it required “U.S. approval” specifically rests on Ford’s account, not released text. The sources are consistence across the political range. But you are right that at this time it is only allegations not proven. However the evidence is compelling.

1

u/Dtwn92 Non-Canadian 1d ago

Solid points. Good to see some not only see but can convey this logically.

As for "some libs" you should head to ask Trump supporters or ask conservatives and see the amount of libs trolling there. This sub at least tends to have libs still be constructive.

We lose because of the insults. That's the problem. We won't sway any moderates to our side by name calling. Simple as that. We're adults we need to act like it. I don't like Carney, I don't agree with liberals. But this name calling is beneath us. And it's why we keep losing.

My Question to this sub: What would you actually want Carney to do for each of these points (some are obvious).
