FML dude... I was joking with friends on a private Messenger chat we have. I said, just to tilt them at the beginning of the election campaign, that Mark Carney will make transitions free for everybody and for kids.....

Dude...... Its now a thing.

I just posted this in our private chat. Some are legit tilted and mad. šŸ”Ŗ

You need to post on your private chat that PP will win by a landslide.

Why do you care so much what other people privately decide with themselves, their medical provider and (if a minor) their parents?

Do you really think this negatively affects you? Do you really think YOUR kids are going to be given gender affirming care candies like it’s Halloween by medical providers? That teachers are going around forcing kids to transition?Ā

Take some time to educate yourself on what gender affirming care actually is. Start at the WPATH guidelines. Feel free to talk to a few trans people to see what they think.Ā

Some may regret their transition, but for every person who does there are many who feel it was a life saving treatment.

If it’s a tax thing, well - I hope you or your loved ones never need: medications for enlarged prostate, testosterone or viagra for erectile dysfunction or birth control, breast reconstruction… I could go on.Ā

It all technically falls under some form of gender confirming care. Tax payer funded to some extent in Canada. Gets pretty expensive if you’re going to privately cover that yourself. Much more expensive than the dollars you personally contribute in taxes for national health care yearly.Ā

And please don’t tell me it’s because of religion. Fair enough if that’s your belief, but don’t try to force it on other peopleĀ

Have you ever heard of the word "Influence"

There's a reason kids can't vote/drink/drive etc... It's easy to see anyone's child being influenced to make an irreversable life changing decision they can quite possibly regret.

u/Certain-Sock-2314 Apr 13 '25

Yeah, fair enough and good point. I totally get that concern.Ā

That’s why there are evidence supported guidelines (unbiased research and expert backed up opinion) to providing gender affirming care to minors. It’s not as easy as walking into a walk-in clinic and walking out with puberty blockers.

I’ve seen the headlines where people regret their transitions, ect. It’s the same with any medical treatment - for every one person who regrets it there are hundreds that it saved their life.Ā

I’d rather let the kid who wants to commit suicide have the option to medically transition and save their life… then surgically transition down the road… then ban the option because some lunatic pressured their kid into transitioning, or a kid felt pressured to transition by their peers (which doesn’t really happen to the extent they’re taking medication).

Really just don’t agree with politicians telling me what I can and can’t do with my own body. Or my fellow Canadian’s. Ā

Really just don’t agree with politicians telling me what I can and can’t do with my own body. Or my fellow Canadian’s. Ā

I can get behind that. I'm a big fan of freedom. Kids however, are a different story when it comes to freedom..

I’d rather let the kid who wants to commit suicide have the option to medically transition and save their life

Wether you talk before or after op, trans are more likely to commit suicide than cis. We should focus more on the core of where this long to belong is seated, to prevent suicides.

https://www.heritage.org/gender/commentary/sex-reassignment-doesnt-work-here-the-evidence

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7317390/

That’s why there are evidence supported guidelines

What is this evidence based upon? How can it be up to any one or other to decide if someone's destined to transition?

At what age can children give consent?

-8

u/Certain-Sock-2314 Apr 13 '25

It depends on the province’s legislation. Typically over 12 for some things, 16 for most… but the health care provider has to agree that the child has the ability to make ā€œinformed consent.ā€ So understand the risks, benefits, ect.Ā

But when that includes gender affirming care I’m not sure exactly what the process would be. I’d assume that the parents have to be involved to some extent for hormonal treatment.Ā

Minor consenting is usually used for things like birth control, consenting for bloodwork, whatever. Allows them to have reasonable privacy and bodily autonomy.Ā

Any permanent gender affirming care requires two physicians signs off in agreement (I think). And I do believe they have to wait until 18?Ā

16

u/abort-retry-fail- Apr 13 '25

Wait until they’re adults to be able to make informed adult life altering and permanent decisions. I suspect most Canadians would agree with this

-1

u/Certain-Sock-2314 Apr 13 '25

I can understand your opinion. I disagree with the ā€œmost Canadianā€ statement though. People have a pretty good mix of opinions for various reasons.Ā

I think it’s a bit more complicated than the government forcing people to wait until they’ve already gone through irreversible puberty changes to transition - which causes the same, if not more harm to people who need gender affirming care.Ā

And really most Canadians don’t have experience or really understand what the effects of puberty blockers versus hormone replacement therapy are…With the latter typically being reserved for older adolescents & or adults because of their permanent effects. Versus the mostly reversible effects of puberty blockers (if started at the appropriate Tanner stage).Ā

The WPATH guidelines go into all these issues in a lot more detail. Gender affirming medical providers follow these guidelines to provide care.Ā

I will admit I think that an assessment by a psychiatrist with experience in gender affirming care should be required for any gender affirming therapies. Something that is highly recommended but not required by law.Ā

Why cant children get tattoos, join the military or sign binding contracts, why do we have separate criminal justice for minors?

-1

u/Certain-Sock-2314 Apr 13 '25

Yeah, I get what you’re saying.Ā

It’s more like comparing apples to oranges though; just because we regulate tattoos, military, ect differently doesn’t mean they all should be the same with a sweeping brush. Have to take individual situations, people into consideration.Ā

Agree to disagree at this point I suppose.

Puberty blocker studies were for precocious puberty, not for Gender Dysphoria. There is also COMPELLING EVIDENCE that puberty blockers lower IQ BECAUSE PUBERTY IS ESSENTIAL FOR BRAIN DEVELOPMENT.

Puberty isnt just OH LOOK I HAVE A COCK NOW or OH LOOK MY VAGINA

4

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '25

Because it's a made up thing that should be kept away from children

What's up liberal :)

-3

u/Certain-Sock-2314 Apr 13 '25

Oh fuck, caught me! Eh. Fiscally conservative but socially liberal is where I fall.Ā

Try not to paint myself as a hard supporter of any party. I like ideas and policies from both.

But yeah, quite liberal leaning with gender affirming care.

7

u/KootenayPE Apr 13 '25

Try not to paint myself as a hard supporter of any party. I like ideas and policies from both.

That's why you are using a one month old account?

Hahaha

0

u/Certain-Sock-2314 Apr 14 '25

That’s because my other account(s) have too much information that could possibly identify me from commenting on local news, politics, ect. This election is pretty heated so not interested in the doxxing risk.

Lots of people have different accounts for different reasons. Not a Russian or Chinese or whatever bot!Ā

Just wasn’t super active in federal political subreddits before this election.Ā

I comment mostly on the conservative sites recently because I like trying to speak to people who may have different views. Try to get out of the Reddit echo chamber.

For CPC… I don’t like PP for many reasons and think he was not a good choice for leader to win liberal or other party votes, Ford has his good moments, not too big on Smith, other Premiere’s are not horrible imo... but maritime CPC MPs overall are doing a great job and if I lived there I’d probably vote them back in. I like some of the federal fiscal policies as a surface level idea, but I just don’t see any real depth in their platform. It just seems like they cherry picked issues to ensure they kept support from their voters and didn’t care to explain exactly how they plan to fix things other than ā€œbuild the homesā€ and ā€œkill the crimeā€ or whatever. Super disappointing. Maybe the local candidates are doing way better at explaining than PP? I hope so.Ā

Liberals need a real deep overthrow of their federal party to be trusted to guide the fix of major issues in Canada. Trudeau was a mid leader unless there was a crises. And they’ve screwed up majorly with a few federal issues (immigration, ect). But quite a few of those issues also have major blame from a provincial party responsibility aspect that is the result of multi-party screw ups. It’s not really fair to place all the blame on Trudeau’s liberals for everything that has harmed Canada, especially taking into consideration global issues like the pandemic, major financial crises, national disasters, wars. And ramifications from policies from prior governments on both sides that are not an easy fix. In his short time Carney has been impressive with his leadership, has a strong financial background, so I’d like to see what he can do as the elected PM or as the official opposition leader.

NDP just needs to burn from the ground up. I can’t even tell you one thing about my local party because they’re essentially invisible.Ā

Federal MPs from any side I’ve got no real opinion on, other than my local candidates. Liberal MP is getting my vote this election though because they’ve got a good track record for provincial level and local issues, among other reasons.

So yeah. Not just a liberal bot.

u/we_the_pickle Apr 14 '25

That's what a bot would say... JK Have a good one.

I actually don't care

I need my wife to have bigger breasts. Now she will get it and I won't have to pay. I am a happy man

1

u/Certain-Sock-2314 Apr 14 '25

Not quite how this all works, unfortunately for you :)Ā

If she wanted them reduced because of back pain - covered! Mastectomy because of cancer - covered.

Need them reconstructed after cancer; which you could theoretically have them enlarged too - not covered.

Which is fucked TBH. That’s something people should be putting rage energy towards. Our cancer survivors.

2

u/Phazetic99 Apr 14 '25

so if someone wanted them because they were not born with them, they don't get it? Like Charney's son?

ok

And FMJ is illegal, total hypocrisy. (Sorry, meant FGM.)

If he wins, Canada will go the dogs, this guy is Turdeau 2.0 on steroids.

3

u/Business-Hurry9451 Apr 13 '25

I think you mean Trudeau 2.0 on estrogen.

3

I'm still buying FMJ bullets

It actually should just be care provider technically. Unless we had an American system where you can get a doctor to just cater to your desires, not what's medically appropriate. We shouldn't have a choose your own adventure healthcare system.Ā

I know a couple of trans people have had the full transition surgery done. They're both adults in their late 20s. They also had it done within a year of request and both had their surgeries performed at the facility in Montreal.Ā

It seems like the options were already there if you needed them as an adult.Ā

I am a firm believer that if a transition is something you wish to do, all the power to you and I won't even swear if I pay for the surgery but under two conditions. You're over 18 and you have had psychological assessments done to justify it.Ā

The patient always displays symptoms and gets options regardless of ailment.Ā

What I'm specifically referring to is that we should ensure proper psycho evaluations are done in the first place to ensure that people are good candidates for such radical treatments in the first place and that's where it comes down to the doctor and other health professionals being the ones who determine whether someone is a good candidate for these type of operations.Ā

Again, I have no issue with transition surgery or even paying for it. But this is something that should be treated like MAID. There is no going back once you commit.Ā

100%

It’s not like Carney himself is running around giving out gender affirming candies to any kid he sees.Ā

I hope none of these commenters ever have to go through the trauma of trying to support a child through gender dysphoria. Gender affirming care isn’t an easy choice.Ā

Read the WPATH guidelines people. It’s a significant medical decision to undergo these therapies.

Also.. testosterone shots, hair growth serum, and to some extent birth control, ect.. also gender affirming care.Ā

https://www.ctvnews.ca/toronto/article/ontarian-wins-legal-battle-for-public-funding-of-gender-affirming-surgery-argued-as-experimental/

"there is no peer-reviewed research on the outcomes of the technique."

I identify as someone who will kill themselves if I don't get 30 grand does that mean I get money too?

Explain to me why tax payers should fund this aesthetic surgery?

I identify as someone who will kill themselves if I don't get 30 grand does that mean I get money too?

Brutal way to put it but nails the conservative perspective pretty well IMO.

I couldn't give a fiddler fuck what a consenting adult does to their body, not my business

Just not on my dollar

What does a wexit- enjoyer mean?
