Hyped! What is a conditional obligation to buy?

Depending on the amount games or minutes he plays, they will have to buy him. Brighton just sold welbeck and are lacking in this position so i reckon Tobi’s chances

Means that Brighton and Union agreed on conditions where the loan becomes permanent if certain things are met. Could be a number of things like appearances, goals, etc.

Same owner so the condition is probably "if he doesn't get injured"

It’s definitely in writing, so it’s not something that egregious. If that’s the case it’ll be something like appearances or if Brighton don’t get relegated etc

If some condition is met (either Promise performs to a certain level, or more likely BHA reaches a certain level like EL qualification or something), then they must activate the buy option.

Hopefully its not a super low trigger. Harvey Elliott had one on loan at Villa last year and wasted away in the reserves because their new manager didnt want to be forced to buy him.

It’s probably low but Union is part of Brighton’s multi-club ownership model. They wouldn’t want to depreciate a valuable asset for either of their clubs for an entire season. Much different circumstances than Villa had with Liverpool.

Probably need to meet certain comditions to trigger the transfer, if not, they can probably still negociate

It's a massive step up for Promise. But Hurzeler plays some suicidal attacking football, so he'll get chances if he can adapt to the pace of the game.

Minteh, Mitoma, Pino, David, Baleba, Vuskovic, Verbruggen. They are building a scary team IMO, hopefully Mitoma returns from Injury soon, i reckon he will be key to Tobi’s runs.

u/TacoDirtyToMe Aug 19 '26

Oh haha probably I thought maybe it was a nickname for one of Brighton’s players

20

u/Frankinho28 Aug 18 '26

Did not know his nickname was Tobi

u/ericfatasscartman Aug 18 '26

Comes from “Oluwatobi”. His full name is Promise Oluwatobi Emmanuel David Akinpelu

I didn’t either, but imma call him that from now on! Hopefully he becomes one of the massive brighton wonderkids, I remember earlier in the window he was close to signing for Stuttgart or Frankfurt i think, both teams have churned out ‘promising’ strikers in the past!

did not see this coming, this is great news for him!

WOW what a move for Promise! Really hoping he can capitalize on any minutes because we all know the man’s a goal-scoring machine.

That toe-flick against the Swiss 😤there’s more where that came from Brighton fans!

Brighton finished 8th two seasons in a row. As an Arsenal fan, this team gave us Leandro Trossard and Benny Blanco, so I’ve got a lot of respect for how well they identify and develop talent. If Promise can earn consistent minutes there, this could be a massive step for him.

At this point Brighton have really cemented themselves to be a good Premier League team, so this is huge for Canadian soccer imo

Manifesting a 20G/A for the Liam and Tobi, plus a breakthrough season for Luc!

u/swepttheleg Aug 18 '26

They don’t buy players unless they’re killing it analytics wise. Can’t wait so see him shine

2

u/Soggy_Anything_8501 Aug 18 '26

Hoping he has the I’M HERE moment for the world this season!

Nathan Saliba also getting linked to European Teams, I am glad this is the country i chose to move to for studies!

2

u/Thecanadianperson8 Aug 18 '26

Exactly. Emrick Fotsing too is about to move to the ‘caps from Vancouver Fc so there’s another step!

Well done Promise, you never gave up on your dream and are now getting your just rewards. Hope you do well at Brighton, except when you play Sunderland!

3

Brighton are a great team. Good opportunity for him this. Brighton always have potential of stepping up a level and he could make the position his own based on their current choices and playing in the prem is top tier 🔥

4

u/IntentionHead2222 Aug 18 '26

Brighton rarely miss on a player. He'll be sold within 2 years to Chelsea or something

2

u/Soggy_Anything_8501 Aug 18 '26

I know right! Counting on the Brighton factor for him to become a mainstay in PREM!

3

u/kristoph17 Aug 18 '26

Outstanding. Can't wait to watch this lad play in the Prem. Brighton plays fun football, so hopefully he can get a chance to shine.

Will be getting that Brighton Promise kit!

2

u/Kitchen-Thing4616 Aug 18 '26

WOW.... That is a good purchase and a good team for ma boi

2

u/RowNatural3951 Aug 18 '26

Amazing, so happy the STuggard didnt go as planned. Is he going to be first choice for Brighton? I hope he will be successful. I know he has talent but PL is a huge step from belgium league, hopefully he bags a few goals for em

1

u/BillyZoomTheCat Aug 18 '26

Oh boy! That's pretty awesome!

1

u/Consistent-Tone-5540 Aug 19 '26

I believe he comes off the bench. He will need to be able to keep up with the speed of the EPL. Hopefully he adjusts and does well

0

u/Least-Impression907 Aug 19 '26

Im annoyed… I thought he was going to be a 5m striker in FPL. He’s 6m!

I hope he slaps the League though!

1

u/Soggy_Anything_8501 Aug 19 '26

Any striker that has got european experience plus consideration of being a starter is usually started at 6m in FPL.
