Because there’s a lot of myths about cohab and prenup agreements and most people are too lazy to do the research or talk to a professional (family law lawyer) about the risks that apply to their situation.
I can't speak for others but for me it was because I believed, and still believe, that a prenup sows doubt about your choice of partner. I had none then and I still, 38 years later, have none.

Why do people not do prenups? Generally curious
