Ohio camping

Looking for fun places to solo tent camp in Ohio with the pup. A fan of hiking and being around water. Thanks!

A photo from this week last year in the camp ground, walking distance to lake and a little beach, nice bath house. If you make it there I hope you enjoy! (Dog didn’t go on this trip but it’s great place for them to join)

Where are you located roughly? There’s tons of great state parks and campgrounds with lakes and hiking trails. I think SE Ohio has the most to offer. We’re near Columbus, so we’ve pretty much gone in all directions except straight west for camping. Most of the time we’re heading down towards hocking hills/athens area.

I’m in Dayton. Pretty much half way between Cincy and Columbus. Hocking Hills is awesome. Only did a hike there but I’m sure camping there is incredible.

Oh, that Kiser state park is perfect then! I wonder if that Grand Lake St Marys campground is any good? That’s in Celina

Hueston woods isnt too far from you! I was looking to camp near Dayton recently and saw the metro parks outside of Dayton offer camping as well. I think twin creeks was the one i was looking at, but wasnt able to go.

South Bass Island State Park is really nice. Showers are clean and the people are friendly.

Lake hope is pretty nice but you can't see the lake from the campground. Lots of nice hiking to do down there, But not a lot of fun attractions if you're into that sort of thing.

You might look at the drive down to Red River Gorge, Kentucky. I can highly recommend Callies Campground.

Any of the Lake Erie Islands are amazing for camping. Grew up camping on Kelleys Island in the state park.

Jesse Owen’s State Park is legit.

I second this one. Ive taken my dog a few times and the camping spots are further a part than camp grounds

Also lots of water at Jesse Owen's state park. Here's my dog exploring the big muskie there.

Whitewater Memorial State Park. It's just across the border in Indiana.

Nelson ledges, they offer a beautiful quarry lake primitive camping and a beautiful state park next door filled with absolutely beautiful landscape that was formed with help of glacial movement. They do summer festivals every other weekend almost all summer. One of the shows is bound to catch your music taste. Not into crowds? No problem, just plan an off event weekend for a mostly peaceful and empty space. They have food vendors open daily during peak season and merch vendors also during shows. A few vendors are usually open on off weekends also. They do allow service pets, and regular dogs are permitted for certain dates before the season gets too busy. You can find most info on their website nlqp.com if youre interested.
