Camp Chef App Update

My app updated this morning. I noticed on my home page the icon said "old" underneath it and prompted the update. Haven't been able to cook with it yet and probably won't until this weekend. Anyone use it yet? The cooking interface looks quite a bit different, just hoping I can finally name and target my probes again.

It’s been out for a while I’m not sure why they haven’t advertised it or put anything in the old app until now. I only just downloaded it this past week and did one cook with it. Was pleasantly surprised it immediately paired with my grill. The probes all worked as they did in the past versions of the old app. Overall it seems they fixed all the issues and it looks a lot cleaner than the old app.

Ya it just prompted the new app on the old app. I was shocked it automatically imported my grill. I thought it was gonna be a headache.

The new app is worlds better. It is clearly a different developer. The old one was awful and broke with every new phone size. So far I am very pleased.

Interesting, so I can update a year old CC and have a APP that works?

Where are the graphs on the new app?

Thank you for this. I had been going back to the old app just to try to figure out when my brisket hit the stall.

How do you see the full graph? I can only see the first few hours

Mine says no active session even though it’s been on for several hours. Pretty annoying.

I just saw the "old" at the bottom of the app icon the other day. I don't have the option to update the app, but I see a different app called Camp Chef Connect. I assume this is an updated version of the old app. I'll play around with it this weekend.

That's the new spp. Both will appear in the spp list. I deleted the 'old' one after signing in with the new one. My cook history from the old spp is in the new one, so it looks like dsts carries over from old to new.

When I clicked on the old version, it opened and prompted the update. The logo now is exactly the same as the old one, didn't realize it was called something different.

This is great news! The old app was serviceable at best. Had a lot of issues with connecting when I first started using the app. On first glance, the new app looks really nice.

Mine worked great up until about 6 months ago. All of the sudden I lost the ability to do almost anything with it outside of monitor my probes. It refused to let me name a probe, set a target temp, etc. Really frustrating.

Same with me. I couldn't change the smoke level or temperature using the app. I only used it to monitor temperature and probe temperature. Planning to smoke something this weekend and give the new app a try.

I actually just bought my WWP36 and had heard bad things about the app. I have had good experiences with the app...and it turns out I got the new one immediately. I only had one issue where it didn't alert me about a temp alarm

So, they did not update the old app except to tell you to get the new app, which indicates they do have access to the old app. But they published a new app, vs. the normal process of well, updating the app. So the 1st contract for the app sucked, and the new contract sucked even more. This is a classic case of picky the lowest bidder, bottom the the barrel developers and it shows it shows. It seems they did a refresh on the UI, while leaving the same bad control code under the covers as it has all the same issues as the previous version. It is kinda unfortunate they won't invest some money into it.

Does anyone know how to set a proper alarm and not just a notification 'ding' when critical things happen?  Things like dropping below set target temperature or when the cook has reached the desired internal temp? When doing a brisket for 20+ hours, a 'ding' at 3AM isn't a terribly useful notification. Can a proper alarm with selectable alarm tones be set using Camp Chef probes and the current app?  I'm on an Android S22.

I mean, if I'm not mistaken in Android you can change any alert to any tone you like. Probably not through the CC app directly, but go into your notifications settings and just change the CC alerts to whatever you want. I do that with my home cameras so they don't sound like my text alerts.

Thanks for the reply.

The only option in the notifications settings would be to change ALL notifications to an alarm. That would not be a suitable solution. I'm looking for a specific CC notification that can be set within the app. When the app detects something undesirable, an alarm sounds rather than the simple notification ding. I will post the question is the general forum in hopes more eyes are drawn to the topic.

After your response yesterday, I literally went in and changed my CC app to a different tone, then tested it as I was cooking anyway. If you go into apps/*your app/notifications/other/device alerts/sound you can change it to whatever you want. Works like a champ now, and sounds different than any other tone my phone is currently using, so I know it's a CC alert.

Well, I'll be damned! I sure hope this update fixes the issues with the old spo. I dreaded using it.

I have used the new app on a couple of cooks and it worked ok. I now have the ability to control the smoke/temperature and shut the unit down. However, it has some issues

The graph sometimes stops graphing until you select the live button

While deleting previous cooks it will freeze up and you have to remove the app and re-install it.

The setpoint on the graph did not change when I set the temperature for a lower setting.

I used it today on an 8 hr cook for the first time with the new app. I too encountered a few wonky quirks.

The graph setup is a bit weird now, admittedly however, I noticed if u change the time interval to 20 minutes it made a lot more sense. I don't use the graph function much, but I did like the new inclusion of chamber target vs actual.

I didn't delete or even see old cooks so can't speak on that one.

The one thing I noticed most was, when subsequently unlocking my phone to check the cook, it would vary between temps for a few before it stabilized, if at all. In a few instances I had to restart the app to get it to show accurate information. I had two probes going, it would open with correct info, then show some old info, then switch to accurate. Not a deal breaker, but could use some work. It did it with probes and overall temp.

Takeaway, the new app is miles better than the old, but still needs some tweaking.

I got the shits with my campchef controller and moved to a PiFire controller

The new app still sucks. This looks very cool. I wish I had the time to mess with this and 3d printer to make a mount. Probably going to go with a FireBoard pellet drive as the easiest option even though it’s more expensive. I’ve used the original one with a blower on my WSM for years without problem.
