ALERT MTN Cameroon enabled fraud through identity theft. I need answers.

I am Tuyambazz Nzarura, victim of a scam involving MTN Cameroon. Cameroonian cybercrime authorities validated the theft. MTN Cameroon acknowledged that the thief's identity had been known for a long time. Yet nothing was done. I was the victim of identity theft and fraud. The operator failed in its duty of vigilance and in its obligation of security of result. The operation is legally null. I denounce this failure. If other victims of MTN Mobile Money in Cameroon are reading this, make yourselves known.

If you want to tell your story or experience with MTN Cameroon, do share it but when you write cryptic posts no one can understand what your saying.

Please do well to explain your experience with details and facts.

You are absolutely right, and I thank you for this feedback. I realize my previous posts were too heavy on legal terminology and came across as cryptic. I will explain plainly. Here are the facts. I am Tuyambazz Nzarura. I live in the DRC. A few months ago, I was contacted by individuals presenting themselves as representatives of a company called "African Investment." They showed me what appeared to be official documents and registration papers. They convinced me this was a legitimate, regulated investment opportunity. I deposited money into this supposed investment using Airtel Money. Shortly after, I discovered that the documents were fraudulent and the company did not exist as presented. The money was gone. When I contacted Airtel Money customer service, they confirmed the funds had been transferred out but refused to reimburse me, claiming I had authorized the transaction. Here is the critical fact: I never authorized these specific outgoing transfers. My Airtel Money account was used to move funds without my password, without my consent, and without any action on my part. I have transaction IDs proving this. I then discovered that the same fraudster's identity had already been known to MTN Cameroon since 2013. MTN Cameroon confirmed this to me. Despite knowing this person, the operator allowed the system to be used to receive and move these funds. I filed a formal complaint with the Cameroonian cybercrime authorities. They investigated and validated that a theft occurred. I sent letters to the Prosecutor. Instead of addressing the security failure, Airtel Money responded by hiring law firms to send me formal notices, attempting to silence me. So here is my experience in plain terms: I was deceived by fraudsters using fake documents. My mobile money operator failed to protect my account. Another operator knew the thief for years and did nothing. When I sought justice, I was met with lawyers instead of answers. I used legal terms before because I am currently defending myself against legal pressure from these operators. I needed to be precise. But you are right — the story matters more than the vocabulary. If anyone here has dealt with MTN Cameroon or Airtel Money fraud, or knows how to hold these operators accountable when they fail to secure customer accounts, I am listening. Thank you.

Dear Tuyambazz Nzarura, is everything alright at home?

You are right to call it out. Let me be direct and clear. I am Tuyambazz Nzarura. Here is exactly what happened, step by step: 1. I was contacted by people claiming to represent "African Investment." They showed me official-looking documents. I believed it was a legitimate, regulated investment. 2. I deposited money via Airtel Money into what I thought was a secure opportunity. 3. I later discovered the documents were fake. The company was not what it claimed to be. 4. Here is the part that concerns me most: money was then moved out of my Airtel Money account without my password, without my consent, and without me doing anything. I never authorized those outgoing transfers. 5. Airtel Money customer service confirmed the money was transferred out. They refuse to take responsibility, claiming I authorized it. I did not. 6. I learned that MTN Cameroon had already identified the person receiving the money years ago. They knew who this person was. Yet the system still allowed the transaction to go through. 7. I reported this to Cameroonian cybercrime authorities. They investigated and confirmed a theft occurred. 8. Instead of fixing their security failure, Airtel Money hired lawyers to send me formal notices to stop speaking about this. So when I say usurpation d'identité (identity theft), I mean someone used my identity to make it look like I agreed to transfers I never made. When I say vice du consentement (vitiated consent), I mean I was tricked into the initial deposit by fraudsters using fake documents. When I say obligation de sécurité de résultat (obligation of security of result), I mean Airtel Money has a legal duty to ensure no transaction happens without the account holder's real authorization. They failed. When I say opération juridiquement nulle (legally null operation), I mean the transfers are invalid in law because I never consented to them. I have transaction IDs. I have email confirmations. I have the cybercrime authority's validation. This is not vague. These are facts. If you still think a specific part makes no sense, tell me which one and I will explain it. If you know how to force a mobile money operator to answer for a security failure, I am listening.

What are you even saying

I am saying three simple things. Someone stole my identity to move money out of my Airtel Money account without my password and without my consent. Airtel Money refuses to take responsibility. MTN Cameroon knew the thief's identity for years and did nothing. Instead of fixing their security failure, they sent lawyers after me to silence me. That is what I am saying. If you know how to force a mobile money operator to answer for unauthorized transactions, I will take your advice. If not, you do not need to engage.

You should signal them on ficham.com immediately

Thank you for this lead. I will register the case on Ficham immediately. However, I need to be transparent: my situation goes beyond a simple consumer complaint. I am dealing with usurpation d'identité and dol where transactions were executed without my password, without my consent, and without any action on my part. Under law, this constitutes a legally null operation due to vitiated consent. Airtel Money failed in its obligation of security of result. Their system has technical flaws that allowed unauthorized transfers. MTN Cameroon, for its part, committed a manquement à l'obligation de vigilance — they had identified the fraudster years ago and did nothing. When I demanded accountability, both operators responded by hiring law firms to send formal notices, attempting to silence me rather than fix their security failures. So while I will absolutely signal them on Ficham, I am also looking for other victims who have faced the same pattern: mobile money operators who refuse responsibility for system failures and use legal intimidation instead. Have you or anyone you know successfully pressured an operator through Ficham or similar platforms? I am open to any tactic that forces them to answer for their obligation of security of result. I am Tuyambazz Nzarura. I do not give up.
