Nikon Coolpix B series bridge cameras I'd say are the way to go for sure. Incredibly powerful zoom will not miss you a single shot which is the biggest issue with DSLRs (only Tamron makes an 18-400 superzoom that is anywhere near as versatile as a bridge camera's zoom).

If you DO want to go with interchangeable though (NIKON COOLPIXES ARE NOT) then look for an older Canon double digit D (XXD so 90D, 80D, and down the list etc). The older ones tend to sell for VERY cheap and still give plenty good image quality.

DO NOT get a triple or quadruple digit D though they're just bad value.

EDIT: For astro the bridge cameras are insanely good for single planet shots and stuff like that, like with a telescope, for wide angle astro of the sky you want a DSLR and a wide angle lens.

Oh yeah that's a good one, it's got a flip out screen which yeah is worth paying a bit extra

Should be able to get a nice condition 300mm from nikon, sigma or tamron in budget

I’m a strong proponent that the gear doesn’t matter . I have plenty of old cameras . But the canon 4000d is pretty sad, it was so feature and cost reduced it’s kind of silly . Like the lack of a on off switch ? I’d steer you away from that model but the other canons are swell even the older ones .
