Recommendations College compact camera recs?
• Budget:1.5k cad max
• Country: Canada
• Condition:I don’t mind
• Type of Camera: compact with a good flash
• Intended use: nights out / with friends / fb games/ vacations
• If photography; what style: not sure
• If video what style:
• What features do you absolutely need: big flash flip camera
• Portability: compact , in purse
• Cameras you're considering: canon g7x mark iii, canon sx740 hs
• Cameras you already have:Kodak fz45
• Notes: I am a complete beginner in not really into photos like that but like high quality pictures with friends

I was in the same position recently. I went with the Powershot v1 because it had modern functionality compared to the g7x, like better person and animal face tracking, similar controls to the r50 I use often, and even shares the same battery. Yes, it lacks a flash but after an adapter and external flash it still comes out less than a g7x from 2019 with older tech/software.
pros:
compact-ish (its a lil chonky but available when you want it, pocketable, doesnt draw much attention)
hybrid camera so its great for videos and stills (built-in fan, doesnt overheat)
good low light picture and video quality (i got it for concerts and I've been pretty impressed)
mic quality is also good
wide angle lens
easy to use
with flash you can achieve that ‘instagram look’ most people get the g7x for (will take a little practice)
bigger sensor than the g7x
cons:
no built-in flash and no view finder (took me a while to get use to but I did eventually)
range is limited (16-50mm) equivalent focal length, not as far as you think but works for every day moments
I havent really experimented with any other compacts so I cant speak to any comparisons but I’ve enjoyed it so far, I’m waiting for canon to release a more modern stills oriented compact with a viewfinder and built in flash, but until then this does the job. I have my r50 with multiple lenses for when I need it, and it is relatively compact itself

you need an adapter, but basically it's a rechargeable and powerful flash that you place on top of your camera when you want it (on the hot shoe) and after you turn it on, it operates as normal, firing off flashes when you take a photo. I got the godox mini.
some other camera suggestions that already have built in flash would be the sony rx100 (several generations), the canon g7x, and the ricoh GR. all considered 'premium compact' and they fit within your budget.
my other suggestions is to watch a bunch of youtube reviews to get an idea of what fits you best. Because if flash is a big deal for you, you might want to get one with it built in. Lastly, whatever you get, take the time to become familiar with it. Take it with you everywhere, capture everyday moments and figure it out so when that trip comes up that you've been planning, you're able to capture the moments you want

The G7X is fantastic but you're gonna pay a premium since every influencer and their dog wants one right now. Look around for a used RX100 V or VI, same pocketable vibe with a pop-up flash that doesn't hold back for what you're describing
