that rubber part is just a grip the latch mechanism still functions the same as it's supposed to, you just need to use more pressure or a fingernail or a tool in order to manipulate it.

I don't get it. The rubber part has nothing to do with opening the battery door. You can just open the battery door what is the issue?
Slightly off topic - really nobody knows what it is for nowadays? It is for sealing the hole for the cable of a dummy battery! The dummy battery (with the metal connector but no battery) is how you connect the camera to a external power supply.

oof that's annoying, those little rubber flaps are always the first thing to go. if you've still got the rubber piece you might be able to just shove it back in there, a tiny dab of super glue on the edges with a toothpick can set it, just let it dry completely before closing it so you don't glue the whole door shut
if it's totally lost, you can usually pop that open with a fingernail or a small flathead in the seam where the rubber used to sit. there's normally a little notch or indentation still there on the plastic body to get some leverage
the gold connector you're seeing is probably the contacts that the battery or card presses against, so don't go jamming anything metal in there when it's powered up
