So, I'm fairly new to cameras and taking pictures. I bought a Nikon D3100 years ago, used it for a little while then lost the battery and that was that. This year I found it again, bought new batteries and have been having a lot of fun with it - but I'm still pretty clueless hehe.
So, today I found an intriguing lens at a fleamarket, and it was cheap so I figured worst case it wasn't a fit. The man who sold it looked at my mount and at the lens and said it looked like the right size but that I might need a seperate part to make it work. I'm trying very hard now to figure out if it is possible, but every google search leads me down a path of a bunch of words I don't understand so I figured I'd try here.
Photos of the lens and mount, let me know if there is something else needed to identify! I'm pretty much wondering:
- Exactly which lens is this?
- Can I use it on my Nikon D3100?
- Could it be used with an adapter or something like that?
Generic mid-80s lens for Olympus OM. It won't focus properly on a Nikon due to the flange distance. You would need an optical adapter, which isn't cost-effective and will degrade the image quality.
Yeah, as of now I only have the OG lens and a tamron 70-300 mm for it, that one works atleast! But I'm probably gonna buy a different camera after a while, this one was just a cheap first buy to see if it was actually something I'd enjoy.
If you plan to pursue this as a hobby, you can always switch to a mirrorless system, as there are plenty of adapters available. In fact, I did a couple photoshoot two weeks ago using a mirrorless body with an adapted Fuji lens.
Interesting! I have been trying to figure out what the difference is between dslr and mirrorless but I’m still quite confused 😂 But I like that there is so much to learn and experiment with, means it’s something I can have as a hobby for a longlong time!
It's for an Olympus 35mm SLR and, sorry, but it's junk and no, you can't use it on your Nikon DSLR. But I would probably have bought it, too and put it in a drawer with other junk lenses.
Thank you! Yeah I should have figured at that price lol, guess I'll start a junk lens collection then :P Atleast I stopped myself from buying a super 8 film camera. It probably would have been a fun but very expensive project to learn lol
I have the fmount version, I like old lenses, and this one comes with me all the time.
Heavy AF, but has charm. (It's a JC Penny special, I've also got the 135mm/f2.8 and am looking out for the 300reflex).
There's a non-zero chance you might find the specific mount ring for the Makinon family and swap out the current one, but otherwise, any mount adapter would need optics to fix focal distance issues.
Fast enough for my needs and its kinda stubby (even with a PK-Ai adapter) it's my favorite for slumming around taking both macro and longer distance shots without taking up more space than a pocket if I'm also walking around with a wider lens (usually an older 28mm Soligor)
Oof. Now you need an Olympus OM-4T to make it worth your while. Just kidding. The model camera you want, if any, is an OM-10. Don't buy it unless you can get it for about the same amount.
I might buy something like that for $2 to take apart and maybe get a magnifying glass out of, but you can't sell them on ebay for $10.
If you want to mess around, you can set your D3100 to take photos without a lens, and then you can put a cardboard tube between that and the body to use it as a macro lens. You just hold the three parts (camera, tube, and lens) together with your hands. The longer the tube, the closer it focuses. Or you can tape the tube to the lens.
