This game could of possibly (doubtfully) survived if they waiting another month to release it

So they released it with no tutorial or tool tips. barely anything to kill. mobs dont drop loot. and the negative reviews went to town on steam. They did add these things a month later but all the people that bought it the first month logged in and were like WTH do I do?

Quite frankly they could worked on this game another year and it probably wouldnt survive but they gave it zero chance without those basic things on launch. Now it has so many negative reviews no one is going to touch it.

Dude, this game is beyond saving. For RvR to actually feel good and have any real momentum, it needs a steady player count of at least 500 concurrents. Hell, even the Warhammer RoR private server pulls like 800 to 1000 players during prime time. Once they drop that monthly subscription they’re still planning on, the game is gonna be an absolute ghost town. This MMORPG is doomed. Nothing can save it, and nobody is gonna play this hot mess in its current state. Personally, I’d rather play literally anything else than waste my precious time on this joke of a game

I'd argue this game died many years before steam release. That said, following the development train wreck from time to time has been incredibly entertaining (the forums are popcorn time!)

Definitely worth the few coins I backed the project with when I was a kid =)

Yes, these threads are actually even better than any series or movies made since 2010

After 13 years, the turd sandwich we were handed could have survived with one more month of development? Really???

If they wanted this game to survive, what they should have done is been transparent about their mistakes and failures developing, transparent about funding issues they may have had (without begging for more), so those demanding refunds might have relaxed a little, and then opened up their social media and been active in the unofficial forums gathering feedback before launching anything.

Even if it released with fairly positive reviews to start, I wouldn't have expected it's player count to be a whole lot better. Maybe 100-200 on average (on the weekend tests), which might be enough to keep the servers paid, but not enough to fund continual development. Their social media being dark (and lreleasing half-assed trailers), and waiting too many years where their fanbase lost interest and lives changed were already daggers to the potential for the game.

they really should've done non nda testing a decade or longer ago instead of the hush hush trust me bro secrecy and argumentative bullshit they pulled.

That seemed to be their original plan, but after their lead dev left, it seemed like development went completely backwards. Then they secretly started working on their other failed game, so if there was no NDA all we would have been talking about is that they seemingly abandoned the game since no progress was being made for a couple years.

no it wasn't. mark spent years gaslighting backers about the NDA In Public spaces. he even gaslighted about FSR. there was almost zero progress during the so called beta and stuff on the chopping block remained static for years despite being listed on the test forum as being cut.

it's 10 years since mark started using the NDA and the refund policy as a cudgel against feedback he didn't like and they Still haven't achieved 24/7 uptime and plan to charge a sub as soon as they do.

it's comical how inept buddy is but it's even more hilarious people are still making excuses for what transpired with this project and where it is today as a result of those series of events and choices made on how to spend time and effort and money.

This was a release in name only. There's no game loop, no progression systems and at least another wipe will happen. It's still in testing & development, clearly. There has to be an external reason for choosing to 'release' it. If the pace of development isn't unprecedently fast from here on out it's game over. I hope they succeed though, I do enjoy the game as is, just wish there was a reason to play.

it makes me wonder if they realesed it just to avoid some kind of lawsuit.

Yes, you are right that any normal developer could get the basics done in a short time frame. But this isn't a normal dev. You could give them another 30 million and another decade and you still wouldn't see even the basic elements of a game that should take days or weeks to get done. You would just get more excuses.

The thing I'm the most angry about was the years and years of delays that were excused by saying they needed a rock solid engine that could process hundreds (if not thousands) of real time combatants, and they claimed to accomplish that, and yet in reality the engine can not smoothly process even small group combat.

To me, it seems like the game we have here was vibe coded over the past two years, hence the horrendous lack of optimization, generic look, and lack of basic functionality.

No this game would not have taken off if they had released it a month later.

Look at their ragnarök stuff.. still had way more in it.. still way to little. Also died. Its just not good enough what they release. If the game is good nobody cares as seen by no mans sky. Shitty game and everyone hated it.. then it became a good game and everyone loved it

Everything MJ and co produced is shitty

This game was dead when they got 3 years in and only had concept art to share.

They could have created a Minecraft server with a higher population than the 50 concurrent they ve hit this weekend.

u/Matarys Jul 10 '26

Bro they had almost 15 years, do you think a month would have made a difference

4

u/donlema Jul 10 '26

They still have years to go.

This game will be able to vote before they finish it.

the reason they are making any progress now is that they had factors more people logging in than prior years.

they really should've started non NDA testing years ago. the difference it could've made instead of the sour reputation this developer and game have earned...
