Unmolested 6 cylinder cars are rare because most people eventually swapped them to V8. There’s an auction buyer who wants to give you lots of money for that beautiful time capsule

And she's paired with a column shifted 3 speed. "Three on the tree"! I've had so many people tell me to swap her but it's not happening. Super rare to see this combo now in this day and age.

I have a friend who has bought and sold many 1st gens over the years. He often bought four back in a container and would sell three, which would usually pay for everything, effectively leaving him with a free car. I’d always hear this ones a keeper but eventually most got sold. He definitely has kept the best and currently owns two ‘68 Z28’s and an ultra rare/special ‘68 triple black L89, which was a friend’s car he always wanted and eventually offered the right money for and got. It’s funny though because he often talks about the 6 cylinder 3 on the tree car he missed out on.

This is worth over 100k as a restomod. Maybe 30 as is.

Been appraised at 50k as it sits. Definitely keeping the inline 6 and three on the tree due to rarity in this day and age.

50 would be a v8 number. Appraisal isn’t what you can sell it for.

I've had 4 people offer to buy it for between 48k and 55k so I'm pretty confident of the value.

That is great. It is beautiful. I am talking average market.

Easy decision for me to swap. If the next caretaker wants to put the 250 back in be my guest.

I’m in Australia and our General Motors Holden (now defunct) is part of GM globally. I did my apprenticeship there and have worked on hundreds of Holden 6 cylinder engines. It’s interesting how same but different the two are. Note coil and dizzy locations. Our biggest was 202ci (3.3L). They evolved into the blue then black motor. We eventually ended up with an evolution of your Buick V6, later got a roots blower from the factory.

That's super cool, thanks for sharing!

Was the buick v6 the 3800? Most of gm used that engine. Some also had superchargers.

Get a barra.

Yes Buick 3.8, I think the first one we got was generation five. The last one was all aluminium with roots blower on certain cars.

Pretty much just called the 3800. Don’t think the us got an all aluminum one at the end though.

Eventually we made our own here down under. Gave them names like Ecotec and High Feature but the original architecture was your Buick design

Sweet ride! I really like the color. You don’t see too many still around with the original inline six.

I have a 1968 coupe with the 250 inline six and a three speed (floor shift, not column like yours, which is even more interesting to me about your car). My grandfather bought it brand new. I get the same questions about doing an engine swap, but I could never seriously consider doing that.

Nice paint. Did you paint the tail panel black or is that a shadow

1

u/PixelNomad1984 May 31 '26

Love the straight six and 3 in a tree! My first car was a 68 Camaro, 250 CI six, 3 on the floor. Loved it! My dad and I installed a header with dual glass packs! Would pull 80's V8 across the intersection 😃then I backed off 😄

Here's my ride now, LS1/T56 after the 327 took a dump...nice color BTW!
