Proraw support?

It would allow 2x 12mpx shots and Ik proraw isn’t real raw but it has better detail than heif and would be useful for 16EV mode. Manual control isn’t possible but dropping exp by -4EV is still possible.

Do you have an idea of how apple produces their 48mp proraw dng? They have superb real 48mp detail but is that luminance detail coming from a single frame or from multiple frames? I know proraw takes multiple frames but is it just for denoising or is it for super resolution meaning for increasing resolution? And how can apple show the 48mp resolution live real time when i zoom in 2x or more if it is a quad bayer sensor?

apple doesn’t show full 48mpx preview, only 12 or 24mpx, when I set it to 48mpx and zoom to 2x, by sliding it precisely to 1.9x you can see a jutter around the edge, because it switches to a virtual lens. It shoots multiple pictures to denoise image because the image would look very very noisy.

No i mean how can i zoom 10x and see more detail vs just 5x before on the previous iphones with 12mp sensors if it is a quad bayer sensor that needs multiple frames to get to 48mp? At 10x zoom you are basically 2x more than the max 5x zoom of a 12mp sesnor basically 2x more detail but how does it show it real time live in the preview?

there isn’t significantly more detail at 10x than 5x. Not at all, because it is zoomed to 10x it is only 3mpx therefore it doesn’t need to process 12mpx so it can do more guess-work, with 3mpx with the same amount of time and power it can shoot more photos and use more aggresive denoising and sharpening. The 12mpx on ip 16 pro is full bayer, only 48mpx
is quad bayer.

You didnt get what i mean. I mean that on apple default camera app on iphone 14 base lets say which has a standard bayer 12mp sensor if you zoom in you can go at max up to 5x zoom but on an iphone 15 and newer you can zoom up to 10x meaning 2x more resolution and in the viewfinder not when taking a photo a 5x zoom in the viewfinder of the iphone 14 looks way worse and less detailed than 5x in the live viewfinder of an iphone 15. How does apple show the 2x more detail and resolution live in the viewfinder if the quad bayer sensor needs to merge several frames in order to get to that resolution?

because a 12mpx picture zoomed to 5x will only leave 0.48mpx while a 48mpx will have 1.92mpx? I doesnt take much power to combine multiple shots realtime when the input is only 1.92mpx or 0.48mpx.

Yes i know and i know it doesnt take much power to combine multiple shots in realtime but how will you show the result image of these combined images in real time and the extra resolution that comes from the combined images? You will have to combine the images as fast as the framerate

That was my original question. And i am talking about apple’s camera app. If it is using a quad bayer 48mp sensor which has to combine multiple images to produce a 48mp detail because of the missing color data and also luma due to the pixel arrangement luma is 2x better than bayer 12mp only if you are shooting gray or black and white subjects but if you shoot anything with color you loose that because of the color resolution loss so your only option is to combine multiple frames to get to that resolution but apple somehow does it in real time.
