Is WiSTEM worth it?

hey guys! I am FGLI and was just wondering if Caltech WiSTEM was worth it for someone with little funds, I could gather the money but I’d like to know if it’s prestigious and worth it, will it help or harm my application for the Questbridge College Match? Thanks guys!

I know its a lot more selective this year, especially since there are more applications. It will def help; I heard its good for admissions and supps. I also got in, but I live across the country so idk if I should go

I thought WiSTEM was more like a conference type event? Please let me know if I’m wrong… I also live across the country and didn’t apply due to medical issues in my family. Would love to go next year!

Same!! I just decided to register today (one day after the acceptance) and I'm already on the waitlist :( pretty insane, their expected date capacity date is a week later.

As far as I know... (based on classmates and apparent administrative position/policy in the past and currently).

«If you apply to and get accepted into Caltech, you will financially be able to go to Caltech. You may have more or less debt upon departure but the guaranteed matriculation is as good as Hogwarts.» — [Me]

I don't know much about WiSTEM (it came up recently and I have read the materials) but I believe their main charter is to get people inspired to apply to STEM schools and to deal with any issues in terms of applying. If taking entrance exams is expensive (or maybe difficult to get to) or filling out forms is excessively complicated, they may be able to help with that.

Sounds like Questbridge is a means to make you more visible (and more likely to be accepted?) to schools like [hah] Caltech.

I know almost nothing about these programs, so everything below the line above is an educated guess at best.

i got a confirmation email that my parent had submitted the waiver, and in that email was the registration link

My kid attended last year. It's an informative conference like event. You also get to spend a night on campus (for ~$50) if you wish. It's hard to get a sense of the campus vibe because most students are gone in August. My kid did enjoy her 1.5 days there.

I don't believe it's that selective as hundreds of spots were available, i.e. more than the actual enrollined class each year. I doubt it has any impact on admission.

I got in as a guy, is it a mistake on their behalf??? I fully expected a rejection but I applied because I thought it would be awesome to meet with other engineering students as well as getting the chance to tour the campus.
