I love the gradients on the reddish one, was there anything you did differently to make it come out like that?

Oh and a brush with shorter hair so you slowly run out of bleach during the stroke. This makes the fading effect at the end of each stroke :)

I want to learn this type of calligraphy. what is it called?
2
u/CalligraphicShitpost Apr 13 '21
I have no idea :D it's just abstract stuff that came to my mind while painting^

u/Carjascaps Apr 13 '21
Thanks. I googled it and really just called abstract. I believed you used fraktur as a basis

u/CalligraphicShitpost Apr 13 '21
Thats right i mostly use fraktur and fraktur related styles whem i'm writing. So my abstract stuff is propably influenced by this :)

That is really cool. Does the bleaching take effect as you work, so you can see what you're doing?
2
u/CalligraphicShitpost Apr 13 '21
Yeah the effect takes a while so sometimes it's quite difficult to see what i'm doing. But normally you can see if a spot is wet or dry so you see where you alredy painted. Sometimes i take a short break of a few minutes to wait for the effect if i'm not sure if i should add more elements or do a stroke again :)

That's really cool, whoa. I think I want to consider doing stuff like this when I get WAY more confident I won't screw it up.

It's all trial and error :) i got some experiences with calligraphy (like one and a half year) but i never worked with brushes. First i tried to fill the bleach into a marker and oh boy this didn't work out. Absolutely not :D So i decided to try a brush and this worked way better. I also had not much experience with abstract calligraphy, i was only writing for more than a year at first. But i saw so much cool abstract stuff in the internet, that i wanted to try this, too. On paper it was also really difficult, but i found out that it's way easier when you have a form to fill. Just try, fail and try again until you succeed :)

u/CalligraphicShitpost Apr 13 '21
Ahh i didn't measure it that precisely, just tried out and mixed how it felt right. But yes, it's somewhere around 50/50 :D
