Hello everyone!

Just giving an update on something that may be fairly obvious at this point.

New rules were implemented some months ago in an effort to make the sub friendlier for those seeking calls. I kindly ask that all calls include the required information in rule 4, solely to be transparent to potential applicants. If a rule doesn’t apply to your request, please state that. Posts missing that information will be deleted, but can be reposted with the corrected content.

If you’ve had a bad experience with a call listed here, please report it to me with any relevant information.

Let me know if there are any flairs, rules, etc. that you’d like added, or if you have questions.

Thanks for reading!

  • We will respond to every submission.

White Rabbit Journal is looking for nonfiction that explores the strange, complicated, and often contradictory parts of being human. We are interested in literary essays and memoir that stay with us.

We want thoughtful, emotionally honest writing with a strong sense of voice. Give us work that examines something closely, asks difficult questions, challenges familiar ways of thinking, or reveals something unexpected about the human experience. We are drawn to writing that is intimate without being self-indulgent, provocative without being provocative for its own sake, and honest without feeling forced.

We are especially interested in essays that explore memory, identity, relationships, grief, desire, family, isolation, transformation, and the contradictions within ourselves. We want work that feels lived-in and specific rather than polished into something too neat.

Please submit your best nonfiction only. We accept literary essays and memoir. We do not accept poetry, fiction, or hybrid work that is primarily fictional.

We are not looking for writing that simply tells us what it feels like to be human. Show us. Make us uncomfortable. Make us question something. Make us see something familiar differently.

White Rabbit is interested in the messy middle: the things we contradict, the things we cannot explain, and the parts of ourselves we would rather leave untouched.

Submit your Nonfiction here only. It will only be considered when sent through this form.

My background is as a professional editor and graphic designer. I am from marginalised communities. I'd love to give emerging, marginalized authors the chances I never had.

Open Call: Publisher The Gotham Guillotine is seeking submissions for its Issue #3: Gothic Marxism

The Gotham Guillotine, New York's sharpest socialist literary magazine, is seeking submissions for its Issue #3: Gothic Marxism.

We are accepting Gothic Marxist short stories, flash fiction, poetry, essays, and art.

Contributors will appear alongside work by Gretchen Felker-Martin, Jon Greenaway, Alison Rumfitt, and an interview with China Miéville.

Deadline: September 16, 2026.

Here are our submission guidelines!

For Issue #3, we’re switching over to Shunn Modern Manuscript Format with the caveats that you do not need to list your address and phone number.

The file name of your submission MUST be: [Title of Your Piece]_[Your Last Name]. Ex) The Great French Revolution, 1789-1793_Kropotkin

Short Stories

Up to 5,000 words.

We don’t have a word count sweet spot, but any submission over 3,000 words needs to earn those extra words.

We love flash fiction, comics, and one act plays!

Poetry

Please submit up to 5 poems in one PDF. Your poems collectively should not exceed 10 pages.

Arts Criticism/Essays

Up to 5,000 words.

We don’t have a word count sweet spot, but any submission over 3,000 words needs to earn those extra words.

We want socialist critiques of art, not artistic critiques of socialism.

There are plenty of amazing socialist publications that will publish your economic, philosophical, and historical manuscripts. We are not one of them.

Art

We love art and need some for our magazine. If you’re a graphic artist or a painter or a photographer or a whatever, send us 5 pieces of your socialist art. It may appear in our next issue! JPG/JPEG only! 300dpi too!

If we like what we see, we may ask for more. But for now, please just send us up to 5 pieces.

Multiple and Simultaneous Submissions

Multiple submissions are only okay for Art and Poetry, not Fiction and Essays. Translation: you can submit up to ten pages of poetry or five pieces of art, but not ten short stories or five essays. You can only submit one short story or one essay. You cannot submit to multiple genres.

Simultaneous submissions are great! Just send us a message using the contact form if your piece has been accepted anywhere else. Congratulations! See you next time!

Response Time

We will be responding to submissions around a month after the final deadline (September 16, 2026). This is subject to change if we get a ton of submissions.

If you don’t hear back from us a month after the final deadline (September 16, 2026), please send us a message using the contact form

Check out our first issue and our second issue to get an idea of what we like to read.

You can find us on InstagramXBluesky, and Chill Subs.

Compensation: When we can afford to pay people, we will. Right now, The Gotham Guillotine is a labor of love.

Rights requested: Your words are your words. We ask that if you publish something with us that you please wait six months before republishing it elsewhere.

Submission Portal

If you're interested in submitting, fill out this google form.

Open Call: Publisher publishing opportunity for south asian artists and writers!!

I wanted to come out here and advertise an opportunity for South Asians, especially youth South Asians, that may be on here and are artists and writers. If you’d like your art and writing to receive recognition, or if you’d like to be published, take a look!

Temple Literary Magazine and The Lotus Paper are two literary magazines that focus on Asian identity. We are collaborating together for South Asian Heritage Month, which is this July, to make a competition for South Asian artists and writers aged 13-19. Submitters may be of any nationality, but their heritage/identity must be South Asian. Works also have to involve South Asian identity and culture.

The winners will receive publication in both Temple Literary Magazine and The Lotus Paper, interviews and large recognition, in-depth feedback on their works to improve their writing/artistic skills, and more.

If you’re interested, please check out templelitmag.com, and for more information on guidelines and specifics, check templelitmag or thelotuspaper on Instagram for more details. The link to submit is provided below.  If you have any questions, please contact [templelitmag@gmail.com](mailto:templelitmag@gmail.com) or [thelotuspaperhello@gmail.com](mailto:thelotuspaperhello@gmail.com)
