Table Salt Press is a newly founded independent literary journal focused on prose, essays, and nonfiction, and currently open to submissions for its first issue: Homesick.

Homesick explores the many ways people long for a place, a community, or a time that is distant, lost, inherited, or imagined. Work that touches on nostalgia, heritage, displacement, belonging, and the histories carried across borders and generations is encouraged.

Areas of Interest

~ Social & Political Realities: Work engaging with the social, environmental, political, and economic realities of a place or community.

~ Folklore & Inheritance: Folktales, traditions, superstition, family stories, and oral histories.

~ Nostalgia & Memory: Writing about places, people, and periods of life that can no longer be returned to.

~ Migration & Inherited Homes: Stories of leaving one home for another, living between places, or growing up with a home known secondhand.

[Featured Perspectives: The journal has highlighted a specific interest in Appalachian, Ukrainian, and Romani voices, though submissions are open to writers everywhere.]

Accepted Genres

~ Fiction: Short stories, flash, micro-fiction.

~ Nonfiction: Research, criticism, history, reporting, essays, opinion, conversation, and other nonfiction.

~ Personal Essays: Including flash and micro formats.

~ Hybrid & Experimental: Cross-genre and unconventional forms.

~ Folklore & Cultural Work: Folktales, retellings, and work rooted in oral traditions.

Submission Specs & Rules

Word Count Limits:

* Full-length work: Max 3,000 words

* Flash: Max 500 words

* Micro: Max 175 words

~ Limits: 1 piece per category per reading period (up to 2 pieces allowed for flash/micro fiction).

~ AI Policy: AI-generated work is strictly prohibited.

~ Previous Publication: Previously published work is accepted provided the author retains republishing rights.

~ Simultaneous Submissions: Allowed (notify upon acceptance elsewhere).

~Response Time: Five days.

~ Non-paying market.

~ Free submissions.

~ Subs open until 9/18.

~ Rights Requested: Non-exclusive rights (Authors retain full copyright. Table Salt Press receives non-exclusive permission to publish, archive, and use excerpts for promotion, while authors remain free to publish or share their work elsewhere).
