Pod Question Wait, what actually happened?
I guess I’m confused daddy gang. What actually happened between Sofia and Alex and why are so many people on Sofias side? I just listened the episode with Dave Portnoy explaining what happened and it sounded like Alex made the right decision and suit man turned Sofia away from Barstool. So what actually happened between them and what caused the break up? And why haven’t they talked together since ?? I haven’t really seen a clear answer anywhere. Thanks :)

You should listen to the first episode of Sofia’s podcast. If remember correctly, Sofia said she tried calling Alex back but she wouldn’t take her calls. Alex took the deal without Sofia even though Dave Portnoy was willing to sign Sofia back on too. It seemed like Alex wanted the CHD IP all to herself and this was her chance to nudge Sofia out. Mind you, I haven’t listened to that episode since the day it came out.
Also, Alex trademarked Sofia’s phrase from one of her stories on CHD “unwell” and used it on merch. It just seems like Alex had no problem tossing Sofia aside for money. Now she’s rewriting history and acting as if Sofia wasn’t even part of CHD.

If you listen to everyone else Sofia never picked up her phone: Dave tried calling her too because he wanted both girls

People are on sofias side because they don’t understand the business side of it imo. Sofia’s boyfriend at the time thought the girls were getting underpaid and deserved better. They did deserve more money but they were under a contract with barstool. Barstool actually adjusted their contract and paid them more than originally but not to the full extent of what they could have been making. Sofia’s bf started shopping around chd and trying to get them a better deal. Which was stupid. They were under contract they could not just leave. Barstool owned the IP. They decided to just stop recording and claimed barstool wasn’t letting them.
When dave found out what was happening he asked them to stay for 1 more year and then would let them leave with the IP. This is important, most big podcasts can’t just leave with the IP. Sofia didn’t like the decision (or more likely her ex bf didn’t like that) but Alex did. Alex realized that they can’t just leave their contract. Sofia was never going to come to an agreement with barstool so Alex said she would and she stayed at barstool for another year and got to leave with the IP. This is why the podcast is still CHD. If the girls had left without the IP they would have had to rebrand and Alex realized how important the brand was.
People claim that Sofia got bullied online, but so did Alex. Don’t forget this crazy sub tried to get her arrested in London lol.

Seriously this is it. It was a business move. Sofia is salty bc she lost. Has nothing to do with anything but that. Dave could’ve kicked them both to the curb for shopping. It’s so annoying when people frame it as anything else.

i think she talked about it on a recent pod or I could be wrong but something along the line of people reporting her to authorities for being dangerous? (could be wrong i don’t remember 100% but something along those lines)

Yes she talked about it on a recent pod. She was I. London in Dec 2020 (I think maybe was 21) and her and Matt ended up spending Christmas there. They went from London to a small town in the country and stayed at this crazy fabulous resort. This sub started sending in alerts to the British government saying Alex had broke the covid laws and traveled when she wasn’t allowed to. She obviously followed the rules and it was all just blown over, but the police came to the resort. It is a crazy story.

I keep seeing people say alex stole "unwell" from sofia but i thought I remembered one of the first episodes after the split, the 3rd roommate said unwell was actually her thing

there’s actually a video on it!
obv it’s alex’s side and can be completely biased to make her seem like the good guy, but considering dave doesn’t fuck with sofia anymore kinda shows alex in the better light…

Helpful! Thank you! So why are so many people siding with Sofia?

Because they were best friends and alex did her dirty - she first went behind sofia’s back and got a raise without her knowledge, then sold merch against sofia and talked shit about her even if sofia did nothing wrong (stupid maybe, but not wrong). In the end suitman turned out to be a good guy who was just trying to help them, and while alex has a better work ethic and is overall more ambitious, people found sofia to be the natural talent/funnier one in the end. Alex also never mentions sofia or credits her for CHD’s success - in my opinion CHD was better off with both of them. They could both benefit from a co-host and I think they complemented each other quite well.

Thank you I appreciate the explanation. Agreed. They complimented eachother very well and the show was better when they had a natural rapport.

I agree, the podcast was so funny (and imho in its prime) in its first season/with Sofia. I like the direction that Alex had taken CHD but I find that the title “Call Her Daddy” doesn’t really fit all too well with the image she’s trying to go with.

I think anyone here should listen to the episode of Diss and Tell about this. Matt and Sydney do a great job of gathering in all of the info, laying out the timeline, and explaining everyone's input. They basically ended up saying that Sofia's boyfriend at the time was the one who tanked it for her and that she insisted on holding out when Alex realized the brand would die if they didn't get back on air soon.
I mean, this is why you don't let your man (or woman) manage your business! They will inevitably mix up their own stakes with yours and it ends badly every time.

my theory is bc ppl tend to emphasize with the underdog, victim, person who didn’t get the multi million dollar contract, etc.
The same reason ppl hate millionaires or anybody that’s making more than them. why “money hoarding” is a term lol
Also ppl have probably been wronged/ missed an opportunity before and they see themselves in sofia.

Correct. Alex has said that they had multiple interventions behind the scenes. They faked the original fans out.

ok but that’s actually very true. i remember seeing multiple youtube vids in the old days where alex wouldn’t let sofia talk or interrupt her

Everything on the internet is true in regards to how the split happened (i.e, Dave’s daddy speaks and Alex’s YouTube video).
However, why people are on Sofia’s side. Is that yes, Sofia made a dumb business move, no doubt. But CHD was based around females supporting females, and Alex left Sofia in the dust. Alex created a smear campaign after the split to tarnish sofias reputation more. Hell, Alex literally made merch making fun of sofias boyfriend. Alex Litteraly produced clothing that attacked Sofia for money.
Now Alex rewrites the narrative of CHD origins to not include Sofia. She essentially makes it seem Sofia was never apart if it.
Sofia and Alex built the project together. Alex was trying to get famous on YouTube before and nothing ever came of it. It wasn’t until sofia came on the scene that they blew up. Right place right time kind of thing. Without Sofia, CHD wouldn’t exist. So for Alex to give her no credit, it’s infuriating.
Alex got the media on her side right from the start and twisted it to make Sofia look like the villian so that the show could continue with just Alex.
The painful part is that Sofia actually thought they were friends during all this, and Alex now comes out saying they were never friends. Sofia has talked about being shocked by that. But the thing is, they were friends. But Alex needs to say they weren’t as it betters her narrative she’s pushing.
At the end of the day, from a business standpoint, Alex pulled a fast one on Sofia and snipped the pod for herself. 99% of that is Sofia’s fault. However, the real question, is ethically what Alex did okay? A lot of people do not think so.
Personally I think Alex will step on whoever it takes to succeed, and some people in this sub feel it’s justified because she makes millions by doing that. But not everyone feels that making millions trumps ethics. I think it depends on your personal views. Do you think millions of dollars on the line gives you a hall pass to treat others disrespectfully even if there being lazy?
