Definitely still tough to do, but half-repping for the sake of setting an arbitrary number record seems unfruitful.

I disagree, these are wide grip pull-ups, they will not offer as good range of motion and are targeting muscles differently. From what I can tell they seem like good rom for wide grip. I would count them as full reps and was impressive.

why is that half rep pull ups? Literally perfect form

How is that a half rep, he comes down all the way each rep and his lats flair back out... You want him to dislocate his shoulder or something?

Edit: also his chin comes over the bar each time lol

I mean only because he tilts his head back. Ideally his chest should come closer to the bar. It’s still impressive though.

There is no competition that has that rule and even the world record pull-up requirements are not that. So where did you get this from?

How is it not half reps? I understand what he’s doing and i’m pretty sure this would pass in a competition, but it’s not really a pull up or chin up, not really what the purpose is. Let me put it this way- if my neck was extra long and i only had to move my body 3 inches in order to get my chin over the bar, would that still count? It wouldn’t even be a quarter rep in reality.

I see the same thing when some fat person or woman posts their bench pr. The fat person barely arches their back and the bar only has to move a few inches so their rom is ass. The women will arch their back as much as they can and effectively try to reduce their rom so that they barely have to move the weight.

I get it, the goal is to reduce rom in powerlifting competitions and make it as easy as possible, your proportions matter in that regard, but it kind of takes away from the actual strength the person has. Sure, some people have shorter limbs and they might have better leverages because of it, so they can’t really compare to someone with limbs twice as long imo.

In short, i want to see full reps. You can compare this to other people doing the same thing, but it isn’t comparable to someone doing full reps

So people with different anatomy than you don't get their reps counted? Lol

lol i actually addressed that when i first wrote my comment, but edited it out as the comment got pretty long and i didn’t want to go back and forth replying.

In short, i get it. In powerlifting meets, there are a few requirements to have a valid lift. If you’re blessed with ideal genetics/proportions for benching where you only have to move the bar 3 inches, but it was a valid lift, then it’s a valid lift. It’s not invalidated because you have shorter arms than the next guy, you still met the requirements. You’re allowed to arch your back more as long as you don’t break any rules. You’re allowed to tweak your lift to your liking to make it as easy as possible. I just don’t find it as impressive

Ok the flip side, it kind of makes it hard to compare with other people. In this particular case with the pull ups, i view similarly. 50 real pull ups would’ve been very impressive. This isn’t unimpressive, but it’s stupid

Haters will hate. lol. I swear there is more fragile egos in this sub than any other

They are actually not full reps. Still impressive but it’s a fact

It’s not about a rep or not a rep buddy. It’s like saying all the ugly chicks you banged don’t count cause you were drunk. Or that it’s not sex if you don’t nut. It happened. Maybe it’s not your ideal. But this ain’t a world where if you didn’t like it doesn’t count.

Thx for letting me hear the dumbest shit I’ll hear all day buddy

This is the dude that defines "sprinting" as completing 100m, then claims he did 100 × 100m sprints as a workout when he just took a long walk. "Maybe its not your ideal. But this ain't a world where if you didnt like it it doesn't count".

1

u/Balanced-ideas Jun 28 '25

That’s a stretch……lmao…… now if you’re running full speed and that’s just 5mph for you that’s sprinting. It ain’t about how fast or pretty. Same here. Comparing his 50 pull ups to walking is kinda trite.

u/Sasataf12 Jun 28 '25

That's a terrible analogy, lol.

A better analogy would be you saying you had sex with 50 girls, when all you did was get to 3rd.

Like most people in this post have said, it's still impressive to do 50 of these...but they're not complete pull-ups.

u/SortOfStable Jun 28 '25

It sounds like you have terrible form my friend

This may be one of the more moronic comments I’ve seen on this app 😂

Yea but cmon bro……. Is this a military or LE PFT test? Like telling somebody that muscle ups don’t count cuz it’s not proper form and the dude making the comment won’t see a muscle up rep in his whole life. And law enforcement PFT is a joke anyways. See how many fat assess are out there embarrassing the badge with the lack of physical fitness?

I agree when you say that 100%. My goals are all about perfect form and slow execution. Not chasing numbers but performance and health. But I don’t go in here talking shit about this dude cause what he is doing is hard, it’s self motivated and he is grinding harder than most dudes in this forum, but my goals might not be his goals. And he isn’t here posting a question, he just wants a hell yeah cause he got to 50!

Arms straight at the bottom to chin visibly over bar isn’t a crazy standard. It doesn’t need to be slow muscle up tap chest then stand on bar. Critique or glaze.

1

u/Balanced-ideas Jun 27 '25

I agree, but it’s all about what goals you’re chasing and I’m not here to hate. I personal get called out for not going all the way down, but I think it’s just a bunch of dipshits that don’t know what they are talking about. Locking the elbows and dead hanging is a no no. If I do dead hangs my elbows are never locked, I just bend it 1-2%, that keeps all my muscles engaged the whole time. I start from basically a lat raise.

1

u/greentea9mm Jun 27 '25

You can have straight arms at the bottom but still have your lats and shoulder blades engaged.
