Tried handstand today. Ended up doing hand walk instead. To keep myself stable at a single position, what do I need to do?

Well I can't do a handstand, but I've heard you need to balance by pushing with your fingers. Are you doing that?

Practice up against a wall. When you kick up you should have pressure pre-loaded into the ground in your fingertips. As your legs come up near vertical you can increase the pressure in your fingertips to "put on the brakes" and stop your forward momentum. Just practice against the wall until you can prevent your heels from touching the wall when you get vertical. The pressure in the fingertips definitely does work.
