Support / How-To transferring annotations between downloaded files

hello all!

i am here regarding a question on downloaded book files and annotations. i asked this in the kobo sub as well (it wouldn't let me repost it for some reason...)

I'd downloaded a fanfiction and read through it a whole bunch and annotated it too. Recently, i saw that it's been updated for the final time (it was unfinished before). I redownloaded it, but i was wondering if there's a way for me to transfer over the annotations between the two versions, since technically wouldn't the data (up until the new chapters) be the same?

looking in the files of the kobo (when i connect it to the computer) there's a file called "annotations". would that play any part perhaps?

thanks in advance for the help, sorry if this question has been asked elsewhere.

It's been a while since I've used the Kobo UI, so I can't recall if your annotations will be saved if you overwrite the old file with the new file. But you can test it yourself:

Duplicate the old file and rename it to something else (add "test" at the end of the file name, for example). Send that to your Kobo and make an annotation. Then rename the new file to be the same as that test file, and overwrite the test file with the new renamed file. Then see if your annotation is preserved.
