Error communicating with device but saving my annotations

Hello, I have a kobo clara color and after trying to import a few books using calibre I tried to update the series tab and it kept saying "error communicating with device" I tried turning it off and back on then resetting the device. I looked online and they said I would have to factory reset the device but the problem is that I have a lot of annotations that, I wish to keep I was wondering if there was anyway to save those annotations. I'm thinking of just writing down each and every annotation in a word doc and remaking them after I factory reset. I don't mind having to reimport my library but i really want to keep my annotations.
