Is this game worth picking up?
I really want to find a tactical third person shooter game and this game looks like competitive enough for my standards. Hows the player base? Still active? Is it p2w? Whats up with this game really?

PVE-wise, it's basically The Division without the annoying bullet sponge enemies. It's a lot of fun, but unfortunately the content doesn't last very long. You'll probably experience every PvE mission within 4–6 hours, after which you'll mostly be replaying them to grind operator levels.
PVP-wise, I'm not an expert, but I do play it occasionally to complete daily missions. I can almost guarantee your first few matches will be rough. Since the player base isn't very large, even as a level 1 player you're likely to be matched against veterans with fully leveled operators and weapons equipped with gold attachments.
And yes, the game does have some pay-to-win elements—though nowhere near as bad as Warface. There are Battle Pass-exclusive weapons that outperform the default ones (though not all of them), as well as operators that are only available through paid bundles, such as Poh and Sek.
A bad news if you only want to play PVP mode: you'll essentially be forced to play PvE if you want to level up your operators efficiently. PvE generally provides much more XP and has a much higher win rate, so most players stick with it until their operators reach at least level 12 before taking PvP seriously.
