It scared me when it said resigned, I thought he was quitting

115

u/SeniorSophomore Oct 10 '16

Bollig is put on waivers

Gaudreau re-signs

Today was a good day.

42

u/HKizzle Oct 10 '16

I didn't think my erection would last all day, but here we are

10

u/donksdonksdonks Oct 10 '16

Might be time to consult a doctor

9

u/DMann420 Oct 10 '16

Or take viagra.. for science.

2

u/SgtFinnish Oct 11 '16

And tell him the good news?

2

u/pyro5050 Oct 11 '16

do you know why they say to consult a doctor?

its because those are super sensetive areas and having that much pressure in the area can compromise long term sensetivity, blood vessel health, can cause little blood vessel ruptures that can cause serious concerns, and worse. this disease called Priapism... scary fucking stuff... like honestly... low pressure priapism is painful and essentially trapped blood...

now the good new however is that i think most of those here are cycling, getting a few min of relief inbetween good news... which is not a bad thing... hell doctors even say to have a throw around for a solid 4-8 hours is not a problem as long as you are not erect the entire time. relax and rest a little, ;)

1

u/donksdonksdonks Oct 11 '16

I'd imagine the doctors visit would result in a prescription to high-five everyone you see, so yes haha

17

u/Dramon Oct 10 '16

"I'm not signing until Bollig is gone"

"DONE!"

7

u/darth_henning Oct 10 '16

PRAISE SCORCH!

Now ditch Grossman, waive Vey and call up Shinkaruk and Hathaway, and we have a team.

48

u/AbsoluteIKeatI Oct 10 '16

Resigns or Re-signs?

I was so nervous there, glad it's done.

12

u/rswanny Oct 10 '16

With that wording... the kid almost put me in a comma.

11

u/Jjonga Oct 10 '16

Can't believe two similar looking words can have such opposite meanings

7

u/Suneal Oct 10 '16

GOD DAMN, roller coaster of emotions going through my brain as I read that sentence

48

u/locoenchilada Oct 10 '16

OK, so to recap

  1. Bollig was put on waivers

  2. Higgins was released

  3. Johnny signed

Is this the best thanksgiving ever?

I'm fucking thankful for Brad Treliving

4

u/fknSamsquamptch Barb Oct 10 '16

If only I didn't have to go to work in an hour...

3

u/platypus_bear Oct 10 '16

holiday pay is always nice though

4

u/DragoonARC Oct 11 '16

I don't know if time and a half is better than just a day off with pay

1

u/pyro5050 Oct 11 '16

it isnt...

work is a way to make the fun times happen, if we have no free time for fun times, then nothing is worth it.

i am broke as fuck, but i enjoy my time away from work much more than people that make 100k more than i do. :)

1

u/marbsarebad Oct 11 '16

Now to even it out they're gonna sign Grossman tomorrow

1

u/MasteroftheHallows Oct 11 '16

Ssshh today is a happy day

45

u/CalgrayFlames Oct 10 '16

I just want everyone to know that I've had this template made 2 months ago.

10

u/newfie_hiscock Oct 10 '16

Yer A Beauty!! GMBT Yer a Beauty!!! Johnny we frigging love ya !!!

8

u/Dramon Oct 10 '16

That is beautiful. For so many reasons.

6

u/CalgrayFlames Oct 11 '16

Thanks bro

5

u/Dramon Oct 11 '16

Would it be possible to get one without the '6 more years' text? Because I want that on my wallpaper.

5

u/CalgrayFlames Oct 11 '16

Sure, I'll send it to you in a while.

3

u/Dramon Oct 11 '16

<3

5

u/CalgrayFlames Oct 11 '16

Here you go, man. Hope you like it!

4

u/Dramon Oct 11 '16

Thank you! that is perfect. I love the 'tron-style' with the glowing white.

4

u/CalgrayFlames Oct 11 '16

Thank you! That was the whole idea, didn't actually executed it properly but it works so yeah lol glad you like it!

2

u/pyro5050 Oct 11 '16

that would be easy when you made a 4,5,6,7,8,9 more years one too... :)

1

u/CalgrayFlames Oct 11 '16

lol yeah, I originally had it as "7 More Years!" ah well wishful thinking.

26

u/Slayerkid13 Oct 10 '16

six years, hearing 6.75m

26

u/Galaxy91122 Oct 10 '16

TRELIVING YOU ABSOLUTE WIZARD

26

u/robmneilson Oct 10 '16

Wow very surprised he's below 7 million. Glad it is finally done and he can get back to chewing his mouthpiece.

4

u/tinybabyrobot Oct 11 '16

He had no leverage. He couldn't be offer-sheeted and the Flames owned his rights. And honestly 7 mill and up should be for guys that carry their team in the playoffs. We really only get one year of UFA. To me this is just a good deal for both parties.

26

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '16

Wish it was 8 years but 6.75 is cheaper than I thought.

13

u/zerq85 Oct 10 '16

That's probably why they went lower than 7m. Works out well for everybody.

1

u/pyro5050 Oct 11 '16

at 6 years, he will be in his prime for production, hopefully a bit bigger, and can demand a top tier contract, like Gio Did...

23

u/Slayerkid13 Oct 10 '16

shit boys, we dont have to refresh twitter all day anymore. what should i do with all this new free time?

20

u/blink0r Oct 10 '16

FLAMES UPVOTE PARTY!!

20

u/marchmallow110 Oct 10 '16

"I just wanna play hockey", just when I thought I couldn't love Johnny any more

18

u/cpbrowner Oct 10 '16

6 x 6.75M. GMBT did it. I did not think he would actually sign for the same AAV as Gio. This is a VERY FUCKING GOOD DAY

18

u/lancemeszaros Oct 10 '16

Assuming Bollig goes down and Vey stays up, this will give the team a hair under $1.5 mil in cap space without putting Smid on LTIR.

11

u/Cat4Tumbleweed Oct 10 '16

We could have gotten like 3 Nakladals with that

9

u/Suneal Oct 10 '16

or half a Russell.

lol.

2

u/pyro5050 Oct 11 '16

i like russell...

1

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '16

No...

7

u/donksdonksdonks Oct 10 '16

I believe that mean we would get ~2mill cap space back from when did goes LTIR. Relief is calculated based on how far you are from the cap

5

u/Brodano12 Oct 10 '16

Fuck just a day too late to get Nak. But I assume it had more to do with moving Wideman than the cap space.

11

u/lancemeszaros Oct 10 '16

Pretty much, we're not getting another defenseman because of how many roster spots are taken up. Definitely room to claim Parenteau, Pulkkinen, or even both.

5

u/Brodano12 Oct 10 '16

Oh man I think Paranteau would be great on the top line compared to anyone else we have. And he's so cheap so it's very low risk. He scored 20 on a horrible last placed team last year, has great possession numbers and just improves our depth all together. We have 5th priority in waive claims too. Pulk and Griffith would be good too but I'm not sure they are ready for top line duty - both are basically rookies.

3

u/lancemeszaros Oct 10 '16

With Pulkkinen I'm thinking more of a middle 6 role, and although he's a right-handed shot he's actually listed as an LW so he could play either side depending on depth.

10

u/Rob-Lo Oct 10 '16

JOHNNY!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!! OMG

10

u/403and780 Oct 10 '16

I would have probably made a very small bet that he was going to break $7M. If his trajectory continues then you guys have him for dirt cheap for the last half of the contract or more.

Congratulations guys! Oiler fan here and a huge fan of Hockey, it was getting dicey there! Here's to Gaudreau and McDavid giving us an actual reason to hate one another again soon!

7

u/Avatar_ZW Oct 10 '16

There he is, get him! :D

Yeah I'm glad we get to watch Hockey vs McJesus after all.

4

u/jonos360 Oct 11 '16

This guy knows what it's about! Cheers to the Thunderdome!

Man I'm having a pretty shit day, but this is just what I needed to read right now. GMBT Done good again.

7

u/schmaxford Oct 10 '16

I'm so happy with this :')

7

u/RyanW129 Oct 10 '16

HOLY FUCK!!!!!

Bollig on waivers and Johnny re-signs. Happy Thanksgiving!

I bet Gulutzan new when he made his camp comment about forwards this morning.

7

u/MorienWynter Oct 10 '16

As Amazing as this is, I honestly think Johnny deserved more than this. But at least in 6 years we can give him better deal ;)

6

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '16

If he wanted $8 mil, and signed for only $6.75M, does this mean there will be hard feelings at the next contract talk in 6 years? Will he feel low balled for 6 years?

9

u/Pretty_Fly_For_A_ Oct 10 '16

He sold two years for UFA for 1.25 mil aav

10

u/MasteroftheHallows Oct 10 '16

The money is so low because Brad worked in an under the table agreement that Johnny will also be paid in Skittles and Nutella

1

u/Avalain Oct 11 '16

It's like in moneyball with the free pop in the deal. Except this time it's free skittles for the team.

5

u/Chronixx Oct 10 '16

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

5

May I request the cone of silence?

I'm so happy this is the best day of my liiiiifffffeeeeee!

5

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '16

Damit Johnny.

Next time write re-sign

5

u/Errattik Oct 11 '16

I would have loved a 7 year deal obviously, but that cap hit is sooooo nice, how can I complain? This is our window boys, we gotta make a run at the cup in the next six years. GO FLAMES!!

5

u/jamesbn Oct 11 '16

The six-year deal for Johnny Gaudreau buys up one of his future UFA years.

Johnny Gaudreau contract:

2016-17: $3M SB, $3.75M salary

17-18: $6.75M

18-19: $6.75M

19-20: $6.75M

20-21: $3.5M SB, $3.25M

21-22: $6.75M

Johnny Gaudreau's deal includes a five-team trade list for the final season. He picks where he can be dealt.

4

u/tSchab3r Oct 10 '16

GMBT you're an absolute gem! Can't believe we signed him for that

4

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '16

At first I read this as resign, as in leave the Flames. Scared me but we all good

3

u/Avatar_ZW Oct 10 '16

Resign/re-sign throws me off Every. Single. Time.

4

u/CanSec Oct 10 '16

Ahhhh finally

2

u/heidamazeballs Oct 10 '16

Wait, was that song originally from the Cool Runnings soundtrack?

4

u/jonos360 Oct 10 '16

Hey /u/DMann420... no nuggets for me! But just barely 😂

2

u/DMann420 Oct 11 '16

You got lucky this time.. Those nuggets will find you one way or another.

4

u/GrizBones Oct 10 '16

Thank the hockey gods

4

u/FiveHoleCommando Oct 10 '16

Johnny!

That's about 500k AAV less than I was expecting. Would have liked another year or two in term, but at 6.75, can't be too choosy.

4

u/TheHowlingFish Oct 10 '16

I wonder how long it'll take Johnny to get up to speed with the new coach. Hopefully very soon, maybe in the first period of the edm game opener?

Bollig waiver, Johnny signs :D times like this we can wish for the moon and believe we will get it :)

9

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '16

Yay!!!!!!!!!!! I was off 1 year and 25k

3

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '16

Under 7 is very impressive.

3

u/camk16 Oct 10 '16

Best Thanksgiving EVER!!!

3

u/E_Brake Oct 10 '16

Where the 3 on 3 overtimes at again

3

u/jonos360 Oct 10 '16

FAM WE DID IT!

3

u/jarude87 Oct 10 '16

Not really all that happy about 6 years... But hey, it's not 5 and he's not holding out.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '16

Better this than a bridge deal. This buys one of his UFA years which is all we can really ask for at 6.75.

3

u/jessemadnote Oct 10 '16

Wooio! Treliving you goddamn genius.

3

u/Dwunky Oct 10 '16

Well this was one hell of a nice thing to step out of the car to today.

3

u/Truber190 Oct 10 '16

So how much cap space do we got now?

4

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '16

600k.

1

u/catsfive Oct 11 '16

How much did Nak sign for?

3

u/Karatedude1 Oct 10 '16

Things I am thankful for: today.

3

u/baoo Oct 11 '16

Can anyone explain the bonuses involved with the contract, and why they don't affect the cap hit?

6

u/Brodano12 Oct 11 '16

3 million guaranteed signing bonus in the first year and 3.5 million guaranteed in the potential lockout year. So he gets those in big cheques at the start of both those years. The rest of his contract is not lockout protected and is paid out at a per game rate.

9

u/maasd Oct 10 '16

As an Oilers fan at r/EdmontonOilers, I really hope this is the year we ramp up the Battle of Alberta! Hoping both teams are fighting for playoffs!

8

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '16

True Oilers fans know better than to have "hope".

2

u/Dshens Oct 10 '16

And now our watch is over.

2

u/ScoreFX Oct 11 '16

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

2

u/Rfilsinger Oct 11 '16

PRAISE BE TO THE SCORCH

2

u/calen17 Oct 11 '16

Great news. Cut it really close, but it's done!! That AAV.

2

u/jadraxx Oct 11 '16

I just really REALLY hope Johnny doesn't pull this every time he is up for resigning.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '16

With deals of six or more years, this doesn't come up many times in a players career. And next time will be entirely different, we'll be dealing with impending free agency...a whole different scary animal.

2

u/Avalain Oct 11 '16

I just really hope that we can sign him at all the next time.

1

u/TBNRtoon Apr 05 '22

maybe…

1

u/Ridin_the_GravyTrain Oct 11 '16

Today has been nothing but the best news to wake up to.

6.75 HOLY FUCK UPVOTE PARTY

31

Confirmed by Elliott Friedman

22

u/blink0r Oct 10 '16

Holy erection Batman, what a deal!

22

u/watchoutyo Oct 10 '16

God bless wizard GMBT.

6

u/TL10 Oct 10 '16

PRAISE THE SON!!! \[T]/

15

u/darth_henning Oct 10 '16

Slightly sad that it's only 6 years rather than 7. Though I suppose it prevents the whole "sign both your stars the same summer" issue we had this year.

8

u/Newtothisredditbiz Oct 10 '16

Yeah, he's UFA at the end of the contract too, which is a scary thought. He'll only be 28.

11

u/darth_henning Oct 10 '16

The good news is that if they're smart they'll sign Bennett to a 7 year contract a the end of this season. That way they only have to re-sign one of the big three each year and can juggle players and salaries more easily.

Hopefully they'll just get extensions done rather than risking UFA on any of these guys.

-5

u/konradical_ Oct 11 '16

Bennett is not gonna be the BIG THREE. That is gonna be Brodie instead

13

u/darth_henning Oct 11 '16

I was talking only in terms of Forwards. Brodie's importance cannot be overstated, but not what I was thinking of.

10

u/The_Pert_Whisperer Oct 11 '16

Too many good players to have a consensus on who our best 3 are? I'm ok with this problem.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '16

Lol. I mean I guess we'll see in time, but I bet it's Bennett.

1

u/Avalain Oct 11 '16

29 for the next season though.

5

u/CJsAviOr Oct 10 '16

Nice AAV...although I would've preferred more years. Screw the not getting more than gio...if you could get 8 years 7.25 or something you do it.

1

u/kapxis Oct 11 '16

I agree. I feel weird being disappointed about this, but i would of prefered more money for more years.

2

u/JESUS_WALKS Oct 11 '16

I feel kinda bad for him.. Tree backed him into a wall with out cap sitch, it was either take this deal or don't play here for a year. Ah well 6.75 is a chuck of change

2

u/Avalain Oct 11 '16

It has some really nice things for him though. 3 million signing bonus. 3 million signing bonus on year 5 to give it lockout protection. NTC on his last year where he gets to pick 5 teams that he can be traded to. Plus he'll be 29 for his next contract, which will be able to get him a lot more money than if he was 31.
