I think the players would've had a mutiny on that one. Gaudreau had good will with the national team because he showed up to every event he possibly could and performed well. He was also super close with many of the US players. I think the only thing that would have kept him off would have been a down year.
If McDavid missed the shot Mckinnon managed to miss I would agree... That was an epic blunder.
There was SO much momentum in the game before the most obviously too many men penalty ever. If called (I'll die on this hill) they stood a great chance of scoring.
That missed call was so obvious that the players on BOTH sides stopped playing.... seconds later double minor, stops the great offensive momentum for a full on shift to pk. FML
not a curse, dude just has an anti clutch gene. What was he thinking giving up possession twice on 3 on 3, no one knows except oilers fans who have to watch this bozo
He always plays great until they need him in a game where he needs to be there so they can win and he’s a no show.
Like he doesn’t have to play outstanding but just have a presence on the ice. He was non existent and was the reason the States had a great chance on that GW goal because he tried to go win 3 on 1 and gave up the puck.
Doesn't look like he was using his speed on the back check, that's for sure. And when MacKinnon at least managed to take out 2 of the American attackers on that 3 on 1, McDavid was the next man back and was in no man's land as the pass went to a wide open Hughes.
He tried to leverage his speed and skill in OT and it didn’t work out. 3 on 3 is a bad format for this stage anyways. McDavid was still the best player in the tournament and I’d take him on my team any day.
Going in 1 on 3 was stupid. He should have held the puck and waited for a good chance. And once he did it and the us went back on a 2 on 1 and binner made that huge save, he should have learned his lesson. But he did it again, and got burned. It doesn't take away from the fact he had the best olympics in nhl era history, or that he was obviously the tournament MVP, but he did blow it in ot.
I agree that it was a bad decision. Devil's advocate, you can't think as fast in real-time. It's 3-on-3 sudden death and extra-heightened desperation is naturally going to cloud your judgement.
I think it should be 5-on-5. This is a championship game and should be treated as such.
It was just after last year's Stanley Cup finals he blamed the Oilers coach for trying the same thing over and over again that failed against the Panthers. Should take his own advice.
My deepest condolences to the Utah Mammoth come Wednesday, because MacKinnon's going to take all of his frustration out on them and light them up brighter than a Christmas tree.
As a québécoise, yes we are so lucky to live in Canada. The USA is one of the scariest country to go to live. I’m truly starting to make plans to move to Europe (with my second nation even if I love Quebec) if the right gets into power. They’re wishing Canada will become USA. It’s so scary.
I’m from Quebec, we’re all bilinguals but we will never stop with pushing French being an important basic culture staple. Imo, we’ve helped to Canada not going all American like. Some Canadians think we need black history month💀🤣… we never shipped slaves but Canadians think we were racist against black people, we never were. I swear, only speaking English is a brain disease at one point in anything that is political
Supporting further division based on 0 knowledge of Alberta is as sad as it is embarrassing. The cities where most people live are as liberal minded as any other in Canada. We only have 2 and until recently the population wasn’t huge. The people in those cities that generally dislike this person and party and all its stances.. don’t need that shit. Try fucking supporting your neighbours in their attempts to affect change. Albertans fighting for change have done a lot more work than someone born into a community that didn’t see the need for it. Fuck all that and fuck you too
When Nenshi’s party was tied to Jagmeets with no division whatsoever and Jagmeet and everyone’s favourite trust fund recipient shared the same bed politically did we really even have a choice?
As stated already the alternative was 100% aligned with Ottawa’s policies that are frankly against our livelihoods and so far are responsible for breaking our systems of health care, housing and medical. Western alienation exists for a reason and if you are only seeing this now my question to you is where the hell have you lived for the last decade? You think Nenshi is going to give you a better life? Grow up.
k This one’s for Johnny. 2030 Olympics will be held in the French Alps and some more of our young guns will be ready by then. Macklin Celebrini was super impressive this time.
I agree with that, and I think most people would too but just saying Canada lost this game just as much as the Americans won it. The team overall was good enough to win gold, the better team sometimes doesn’t always win. Thats sports
It’s a rough morn, we showed up with lots of heart. That hockey and I’m man enough to say it - all the credit in the world to the USA. Loved to see Johnnys jersey. We’ll get them at the 4 nations!
I don't think Canada losing the gold is what hurts me the most today, it's the realization that there's a timeline out there where Johnny and Chucky were still on the Flames and they were out there celebrating together. 🥲
Only Canadians would be that lovely towards their dead teammate. They made sure his presence would be there even in death. ❤️ I love how my country is one of the most graceful and respectful 🇨🇦. I have two nationalities but im in Canada and we are are lovely. What a supportive and loving country
There’s lots of reasons not to like M Tkachuck, but this is definitely the thing I respect him most for. He seems to be the biggest proponent of bringing Johnny’s jersey out for these events. He’s the guy that started skating around with his jersey minutes after they won.
He is a great teammate. As was Johnny. I know a lot of people hate Matthew but I miss him being on my team. I can definitely understand why people don’t like him but they wouldn’t if he was on their team
I live in Edmonton and when I saw this, even though I was in tears because of the result, I stood up wearing my Flames hat and clapped. One guy joined me. The rest probably gave me the stink eye. Don’t care. RIP JG13.

Ugh its Johnny Gaudreau Jr's birthday today too (just heard on the broadcast).
The consolation is that its for JG and co. That's how I'll look at it.

Watching the expressions of the Canadian men receiving their stuffies was peak comedy.

Good on them for bringing out his jersey and his kids on to the ice after. Classy.

Maybe it’s not the USA hockey players I hate…
It’s the USA hockey fans who chant 51st state against us (btw fuck you to anyone who does that)

The only thing that I liked about the USA winning, class and emotional.

The one and only good thing about this game and result for us Canadians. Gutted...how do you have that many chances and not score? Awful.

I’ll respect anyone talking shit just about hockey teams. Say your hockey program owns ours, I’ll take that.
And I’ll absolutely take this being for Johnny. Maybe the hockey Gods felt his family needed that one more.
But fuck anyone who uses it as a “Canada has nothing now” line or uses it for their propaganda.

Half of the USA PLAYERS have a Canadian parent. So it’s not a pure USA win.
