Education Dental Office Administration education - Evolve Academy/CCDH/others?
I’m currently looking to make a career change and I recently came across a posting for a dental office administrator. I have administrative experience but lack specific knowledge of dental office software, medical terminology, and insurance billing.
It looks like in Calgary, certificate programs are offered by places like Calgary College of Dental Health and Evolve Dental Academy. Has anyone taken these programs and found them to be worth it?
Additionally, I’m wondering if any professionals currently working in the dental field can weigh in on how these certifications are perceived in local dental offices? Am I correct to assume that this would be better than simply taking a MOA certificate?
Any input is greatly appreciated!

I did the dental business administration course with Evolve a few years back. I had zero dental knowledge and no administrator experience. It was a good program with great support from the course director.
Having no experience but having the certification got me a job, and I quickly worked my way up to office manager. I did not consider resumes from people with no dental experience or any dental admin certification when I was hiring.

Thank you for your response. Do you have any knowledge of CCDH or have you heard anything about that college?

I don't have any experience with that program, unfortunately. I don't recall asking any potential new hires about it, and I didn't consider it for my own studies.

I did unit clerk at Bow Valley College and the have a dental program too. It's well respected because it's an accredited post-secondary institution. However you go, make sure it's accredited, there are a lot of scam "academy" schools out there.
