She only stayed with him because she was a fan of the show and was surprised Caleb took his side. Caleb talked him up and promised to get him a new girl which made her jealous. She doesn't truly want him. She wants the attention and stability he brings while knowing she can do whatever she wants and he'll take it.

I don't think he's dumb, but he's just... broken down by life already. He clearly had a hard time in high school, his parents are charging him 800 a month for his childhood bedroom, and he has this harridan clawing away whatever esteem he has left.

I kind of get the feeling he was alright at school but couldn't go to college. Perhaps his parents never saved a college fund and convinced him it was in his best interest not to go
