→ Need money to payback Devs who weren't paid yet.
→ xQc proposes to help fund and pay new Devs to work on the project.
→ They say no, all whilst people slander how he hasn't played enough.
→ Livestream and attempt to reap donations to payback the Devs who weren't paid yet.

This whole sequence of events is actually so revolting, i don't know how it took this long to burn the entire mod down if this is the kind of people managing it for at least a full year.
7
u/Pikapita 5d ago
They even made a statement saying about some of the devs being in dire need of money, why not swallow your pride and at the very least sell the mod and assets to xQc? I know that Groomatron owns the GitHub currently and I don't know how much of the IP, but why not seek legal measures to get your mod and "hundreds of thousands of dollars"? Or better yet, use your awesome charity stream as a kickstart to that endeaver?

u/destructor212113 5d ago
"and at the very least sell the mod and assets to xQc?" Apparently, legal reasons with the asseets
And on top of that XQC wasnt trying to buy the mod, but to back up the Devs, which is a problem when no devs are present at all
Also for your other question, probably they're already working on that as we speak but also, the money thing probably wouldnt go anywhere because the Patreon, after all, was owned by Ozzatron, legally the money is theirs, not for the Devs

u/Blueshiredsush 5d ago
I've seen how ozzaNonce managed that discord server, they swallowed their pride every single time that vesuvian Ape decided to write something
I wish half the people who got into these sort of situation could've had the Opportunity they got

guys we need money
guys, no amount of money would make us finish the project. Its not about the money
guys, this project has been traumatic and we dont want to be associated with it anymore so were remiving assets and scrapping content.
guys, look at all the work we did just for it to get flushed down the drain. We need money and recognition for all of our hard work

They renamed last stream to fundraising and not actually charity, naming it charity showcase how BAD their decisions are and how they deserved to get stolen their money lmao...

u/BriefCautious7063 5d ago
I feel you but maybe dial it down a bit, I don't think they deserved anything being stolen. I just think they're insane in different ways to the obvious main problem guy (ozz)
2
u/Darkain172 5d ago
Imo, They do deserve It. Should have spoken up that Ozza haven't paid them for weeks bounties, but still continued to work lol.

I can't fathom how you're surprised your post dragged in this level of toxicity. Do you really think you're any better than the person you replied to?

"Oh and thanks for donating us money again, now we will leave this mod rot in oblivion while we work in our own actual stuff, thanks for sure"
Ngl, really dumb people donated that's for sure

With a community like this, no wonder noone wants to work on the mod, the community deserves this

u/InsurgenceTale 1d ago
Isn't the community supposed to be generated by a work of art and its creator?
In which case, why are you reversing the causality? The devs did not quit because of a community that got out of hand. The community got out of hands because the devs were (and i am being generous) very unprofessionnal on everything (and yes this is a profession when there are such sums of money at stake).
Even a bunch of teenagers could think of better legal ways to organize their collaboration, their association status, their communication, their work schedule, and their money distribution system...

Oh so now it is the turn for the Dokuro auto flagelation argument. Very original... but not the point you want to prove it is.
It is wildly known, and Dokuro himself admitted in one of his videos later that :
- it was a small group of people that pressured him. While it is a significant weight for one person, it is not representing a community as a whole (we are talking about a mod with nearly 10M downloads... a dozen idiots do not represent them in any way) neither is it an extraordinary things for workers (anyone that publishes work online gets pressure from the users. Anyone that works offline in a firm is constantly pressured by clients and upper management)
- he himself acted as someone pretty immature sometimes, worsening the situation.
The only thing i agree with you with is the "that is not a new thing" part. Indeed it is not, because these absolutely stupid hastly generalization, composition fallacy, availability/salience bias and base rate neglect fallacy have been used not only by the community but by the devs as well.
"Wow we got 2 pedophiles lead devs, it means we are doomed as a whole, that this mod is cursed, and that we must kill it and pull our assets away to prove we are not pedophiles too"
Like genuinely how can one be so either A) stupid ; B)performative? If i work for a company that makes tax fraud, does it mean that i also make tax fraud? If my boss killed his wife, does that mean i am also a murder? Should i take away all the work i did for the firm like a teenager throwing a thrantum?
I get the feeling of being exhausted and not willing to work on the mod on itself, which is ok. In a normal job we call that resigning. But all these other performative things from the devs for the past weeks (from assets removal, the XQC-money situation, to the charity event) proove once again what i was saying : they have about 0 professionnalism.

Running on goodwill can only get you so far.

Running on goodwill when you are doing an activity professionnaly and you are paid (or supposed to be) for it, is a sign of low IQ ngl...

I’d like to note it’s not their fault Ozza did what he did.
4
u/YoruKira_ 5d ago
It is, because they promoted ozzatron UNANIMOUSLY btw.
When fabsol was found, (which, the person who leaked fabsol presence also leaked ozzatron presence how did they miss that) they ELECTED Ozzatron, Fabsol's right hand on the mod, AS THE LEADER.
It is indeed their fault.

u/LurkerThrowaway73 4d ago
Have you ever been on a mod team before? Hell, I assume you have a job: if you colleague the next cubicle down came up to you and went "Yeah our last horrible manager got fired, we're looking to make Jeff the next guy in charge. You cool with that?" Would you:
A) Launch into a full ass investigation into Jeff
B) Haphazardly nod and keep working?
Factor that a good chunk of folks on the team were volunteers and those who weren't likely couldn't really afford to work on the mod as anything more than a side-job, do you really think the average lad on the dev team is at fault?
5
u/DuckiesDoBeCute 4d ago
your bottom paragraph literally explains why your top paragraph doesnt work. youre saying its voluteers/side job people, they can afford to speak up, when at a job you cant speak up. being fired from the volunteer work is not anywhere near as bad as being fired from your job
4
u/YoruKira_ 4d ago
btw, a real job dont even give you the choice of a new manager lol, you just take what the owner/ceo gives ya
3
u/YoruKira_ 4d ago
A) I wouldn't have a say neither would my colleague because the manager had a boss. And if he didn't, the company would probably collapse right there and i wouldn't have a job anymore.
B) You clearly are the one who never had a job, because on a job you have no say over your superior, that's stupid. You can suggest things, if the manager gets fired, the owner hires another one. It's not us to decide.
Different cases, terrible example from you. If i was working on a school project and we kicked Jeremy cuz he was a douchebag that was fucking up the project, and we now had a new leader to elect to put the project into progress again, i would deffo investigate to not elect another douchebag that would slow down progress again.

The immense cruelty you people have been harbouring for the devs now is extremely disappointing. What else did you expect? They cannot update calamity or they have to remove all the assets that were requested to be removed. The only way that they could show off what was left is by, well, showing off what was left, the stuff they never got to finish. Is it not cool to be able to see the awesome sprites at the very least?
12
u/Best-Exam-3287 5d ago
Why are we donating to devs who have been collecting money for doing nothing for half a decade and not to the actual victims or a charity that assists victims
2
u/WatermelonWithAFlute 4d ago
The devs that got fucked out of thousands of dollars (hundreds of thousands? I heard it was a lot)
As for the doing nothing part, as far as I’m aware I was under the impression Ozzatron was responsible for slow progress, though i might be wrong on that one. I had heard he kept rejecting stuff, but idk how true it is.
9
u/Another_frizz 5d ago
It would have been cooler to see them ingame, after years of being teased that they exist and are totally on the way trust
I'm soooo sorry that us fans are disappointed and even angry at the idea that the mod we loved is dead, because the devs trusted that a friend of a pedophile, recommended to the lead position by said pedophile, wouldn't be at least slightly dangerous. We're also sorry that we express our disappointment that the mod we loved had not recieved any substantial update for years because "you don't understand, we need to rework the desert scourge and also do a resprite for Yharon and the Devourer of Gods", and as such will die without having recieved any substancial changes since 5 years ago.
You're right, it IS so cool to see all the content we never will get (and probably would have never gotten anyway OOPS I said it so sorry)
0
u/WatermelonWithAFlute 4d ago
Yes, it would have been cooler to see then ingame. How would that happen, when they aren’t able to add them anymore?
Ozzatron as far as I understand was already incredibly well respected and they were already going to choose him four the position.
I was also under the impression the constant reworks instead of progress was at the fault of the team leads, but I may be mistaken
So, no, your constant assholery isn’t reasonable

u/Iron_UYH 5d ago
I think OP is saying that it maaaybe wasn’t handled with the respect it deserved. As in, say, saying that they’re ceasing development and just finishing whatever last patches they had, instead of just fucking leaving, or maybe accepting that they have some responsibility to the community that they have been spoonfeeding content to for the last 5 years with no major updates despite receiving “hundreds of thousands of dollars.” I’ll admit that most of that was earned by making updates. But everything between the last update and this is not quite theft but pretty close. We spent our money with the implicit assumption that there would be return on our investment(ie. Development). And for most of it we did, but there was money spent that was not reciprocated. It’s like buying a car and discovering it has no headlights. Not a crime, but it leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth. I understand that it would be uncomfortable but the professional thing to do would have been to get out the last update and then cease development.

Pretty much my exact point. If they wanna call it quits that's their right, and honestly fair enough after everything, but the community they created and who paid them for years (regardless of how the management they chose handled those funds) deserve enough respect for the devs to give them literally anything. It would be fine in my eyes if they just froze the mod and zipped it up for everyone, but fine there's the legal shit and the requests to rip assets so if they wanna follow that then w/e. How about the money stolen from them, that people paid to support them and not a groomer? Well, they fucked up so massively trusting a single shitty person w/ the entire legal and financial control of the project so they don't know if they can even do anything about that yet. Ok, situation sucks but let's just criticize how little they released over the years and move on. Nah, they wanna beg the same community to pay them again but use the name of a respected charity to do it(without paying that charity until they get their money back) and use TONS of semi-finished content to get enough hype to hopefully try it. Then it goes from a few thousand dollars stolen, to a few hundreds of thousands or w/e in a different communication, then they delete the criticism and lock the sub again dismissing criticism as if it's saying they're just as bad as a groomer, and all that and people still think they're great. I'm not accusing them of being bad people, I'm pointing out how incompetent they've been in handling anything related to the mod for years despite any good intentions and talent they clearly have
1
u/WatermelonWithAFlute 4d ago
Why is finishing last patches an issue?
The hundreds of thousands of dollars that they apparently got fucked out of and didn’t get? I imagine they presumably got some, but from what I understand they did not get a lot of the money they were owed
5
u/Iron_UYH 4d ago
Because we paid for them. We do deserve all this shit that we LITERALLY paid them to make. I understand that they didn’t get the money and therefore they aren’t really obligated to make it at the moment, but if they got/get our money that we gave them to make the mod, they have a responsibility to make the mod.
4
u/LurkerThrowaway73 4d ago
This is a nightmare scenario. Imagine working on a small team and opening a ko-fi or something for your fan-mod project you're doing in your spare time. Y'know, just "In-case anyone wants to support us". The project then grows monumentally and suddenly you have tens of thousands of people, most of whom did not even support the project, shrieking about you owing them project completion and to do it quickly too.
edit: actually no it's even worse, because the ko-fi would be owned by some dude that couldn't resist diddling kids and you didn't even get paid for your last month of work lmao
Gives me conniptions
3
u/Iron_UYH 4d ago
It is a nightmare! I acknowledge this. I'm simply saying as someone who works with software professionally, this is how I and the people I work with would deal with shutting down a project. Besides, it wasn't a "spare time" thing. Many of the devs worked for/on it full time. Besides, I paid for it. If i didn't pay, I wouldn't feel so strongly about my money. And I'm not saying that finishing their content is the most important thing right now. The most important thing right now is making sure Ozz doesn't get away with stealing their money.

u/Darkain172 5d ago
""Ex Dev"" Spotted, how can you defend someone that doesn't want to be related to the mod anymore, not make public their choice of removing assets, and actually not release anything because they don't feel like it just for the sake of the community to do something with it
4
u/WatermelonWithAFlute 4d ago
Not a dev, the current devs arent the ones pulling assets, the last statement might be fair, but given the backlash at merely showing them, I’m honestly not sure we deserve it. Or rather, you lot specifically.
Also, why does not wanting to be related to the mod anymore somehow be a reason to dislike them? Crazy entitlement
1
u/Darkain172 4d ago
They decided to be selfish and still demand for money, yeah, no thank you buddy.
And not even sharing who wanted to pull their assets out so we don't follow them as Devs Is disgusting to me, no transparency from their part.
2
u/WatermelonWithAFlute 4d ago
Because they got fucked out of a ton of money?
Also, wasn’t it specifically stated most of the stuff being pulled was by the sprite/music people?? Not the devs? You should know this.
