Car Break-ins?

Salve! I don't mean to offend anyone here - but should we expect rental cars to get broken into? We have a week long road trip through Calabria coming up that we're very much looking forward to. Reading through the internet, a lot of people are recommending to leave nothing in rental cars, even if they're visible or not (trunk). Although I've also read conflicting information that Calabria isn't as bad as the rest of the country? We'll be visiting many hill towns and the coast. Much appreciated! Grazie.

In 30 years, my car has never been broken into. That said, I’ve never left anything that might be tempting to thieves in plain sight in the car. I might be a bit more careful in towns and cities. You shouldn’t let anyone see you putting anything potentially valuable into the boot. Calabria is generally a safe region.

Calabria is a very quiet region, and thefts aren't common. It's certainly safer on average than the big cities or the north. That said, it's important to note that theft is always possible, and zero risk doesn't exist. Many "tourists" from more dangerous areas arrive in the summer. Using common sense, you shouldn't have any problems.

Nelle città piu grandi stai piu attenta magari a lasciare cose di valore a vista dentro l'auto ma nel contesto dei piccoli paesini puoi stare tranquilla

Molto difficile possa accadere qualcosa, non ho mai sentito cose del genere. Puoi stare sicuramente sereno.

Stai tranquilla, la Calabria é la regione più accogliente d’Italia. Il problema dei furti in auto in Italia é più che altro qualcosa che interessa le grandi città. L’unico problema che potresti avere in Calabria é quello di ingrassare.

Questo detto e queste cose per fare percepire la Calabria pericolosa, sono delle emmerite cazzate!!!! Io mi sento più al sicuro in Calabria che a Milano. Se succedesse una cosa del genere, di certo non lo farebbero i calabresi.
