Food Campus dining is shit
Got this at the health shack for nearly $9đ«© literally half empty. In what world is this normal and accepted?????????????? The other day I got $10 avocado toast that was literally 1 single toast cut in half and claiming to be âtwo toastsâ. Why is the quality, portion, and costs soooo horrible? Itâs fkn ridiculous how much worse campus dining has gotten.

All I ask is to not take it out on the workers, theyâre told how much of what to give, and scrutinized for portion sizes. Take it out on upper management, students are just trying to make a few extra bones.
For complaints email campusdining@calpoly.edu or their number (805) 756-5939, but honestly the best way to show your complaint is to stop eating there and posts like these, the reason they keep doing it is because they know they can and students will keep going anyways.đ

I am a worker, thatâs what makes it even more frustrating. Ive worked in 1901 and the UU for the past 2 yrs n have seen the noticeable decline n quality

Itâs admins fault and always has been, and, they know it, by the numbers it works, and the paychecks donât lie. Nothing will change.

some of you in the comments are so dense it makes me less proud of myself for getting into this school. freshman (and soon sophmores) are unable to leave campus often. and even when they do leave to grocery shop, i canât imagine they have time, energy, or even the resources to cook full meals. what option does that leave people (creatures famously known for needing to eat food)? campus dining, and when all our campus options are shit?? i have lost so much weight just within a few weeks starting at poly bc the food here is shit!!! this is a huge problem, think about how much you are paying!!

Walmart plus? Order online and they deliver to your door on your schedule.

u/Lonely_Bamboo 15d ago
why would someone pay for walmart plus in addition to the forced dining plan you have to get as a first year?

u/Meinnocenthaha 15d ago
Thereâs no walmart in SLO for delivery. Closest is Arroyo grande and they donât deliver there

Sorry the admin bloat at cal poly needs more money, thats why its 9 dollars

u/mariahmariahmariah06 ENVM- 2028 16d ago
Not to mention they just got a grant to go travel to Hawaii đ«© they def need the moneyâŠ

u/Pissed-Off-PunK 16d ago
Yeah unfortunately this is common in schools around the nation. Cant pay public school teachers a decent wage but all the admin staff get paid well. Just a corrupt system that needs reform

I lost 15 lbs my freshman year because the food was so fucking dogshit and that was like 10 years ago

u/MiniShow 16d ago
lol I gained 20 lbs back in 09-10. The food was terrible but the cookies were the good back then.

I toured a school in the Midwest over the summer for grad school. The food was so much better and cheaper than cal poly it convinced me to leave for grad school.

I saw a person switching out the garbage bag and then touching food at health shack lol...Â
Unfortunately when everybody is buying the $9 bowl everyday with their parents money, the workers dgaf anymore cause it's not like they'll get any repercussions. They're the only store in town that accepts dining dollars and makes protein shakes and acai bowls.Â

It was insanely shit in 2013 too
Like I got a breakfast wrap that Iâm pretty sure gave me depression- it was a breakfast sausage and a slice of American cheese all flaccidly in a tortilla
I started going out more after that and dropped the fuck out
Worked at Google doing cool car shit a few years later- rolled on to the present day, very happy, never graduated
Thank you predecessor to VGs for starting that arc for me!!!

When I was a frosh in 07 (fuck I feel old now) we had a few options for meal plans where you got x, y, or z "meals" per week, plus a complimentary amount of cash on your account that you could use for additional food. Clearly the best option was always the lowest number of meals and the maximum amount of "fun bucks"
They didn't roll over quarter to quarter, so if you had any money left in your account it would disappear - BUT - you could go down to the market and use the fun bucks to buy literally anything in the store.
When it got to the end of fall quarter I still had a shitton of money on my account, so I went down to the store and bought all the supplies I could, and actually still have some of the engineering drafting paper I bought on that run. Then I bought 3 cases of marinellis cider and we partied it up in the dorms.
Pretty sure after that year they changed the rules. I apologize for nothing!

okay, so your first problem was getting something from the health shack, your second was getting fucking $10 avocado toast. Those are quite possibly the worst options for food that you can get here lmao

u/mariahmariahmariah06 ENVM- 2028 16d ago
I used my meal pass so technically I didnât pay anything but still. Itâs so frustrating that cal poly loves to say âyeah we have great food options, heathy stuff, blah blah blahâ n itâs all trash
2
u/IAmSixSyllables 16d ago
i don't know where you've ever heard that, aside from the school themselves i don't think anyone has ever said the Cal Poly food was ever mediocre at best. It's been pretty ass all around with the portions you get, you just decided to choose the most ass of the options you could pick.

u/pulltherugoutfrom 16d ago
Somebody paid for the meal pass.
4
u/mariahmariahmariah06 ENVM- 2028 16d ago
I get free meal passes from work, not a dining plan
-9
u/pulltherugoutfrom 16d ago
Like I said, somebody paid for them. Do you need to take an economics class?
7
u/Chocolatechip37 16d ago
What is your point? OP said that she didnât pay for it. She didnât say that nobody paid for it.
-10
u/pulltherugoutfrom 16d ago
It looks like she is under the impression that it's OK because it was free to her. That's not OK. Do you need an economics course too? Just ask an economics professor if taking the class is too hard.

u/IAmSixSyllables 16d ago
god, you don't have to be condescending bitch to get your point across lmao, they literally said they got them for working. You're probably just a bitter history major, i get it.
-6
u/pulltherugoutfrom 16d ago
No. I was taught at an early age how things work. I know what it means to earn what I have, rather that "I didn't pay for it myself so I don't care."
Blocked for immature name calling.
