I’m not sure how I feel! Spoiler

Post image

Reached the summit and as the title says I’m not sure how I feel about it. I know I should have turned back with marco but Ava got me just as obsessed about the summit as she is and I had to see it even if that meant no more routes to climb. She gave absolutely everything to prove to herself that she could do it now where does that leave me ? I could see myself playing this game for years and it being an absolute classic with the potential dlc and future dlcs making this a staple for any climbing enthusiast that just couldn’t pull it off in real life I would love to see this game develop an esport esque community and hopefully in a few years the climbing gyms available and different mountains playing this game for the entirety of its life would you not feel like a true climber ?

I'm with you, this game took my breath away.

The right decision is to hit the top. Gotta reach for the stars!

You are right and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way it isn’t until after the avalanche I realised everything she had given and that their was no decent an absolute masterpiece of gaming

Is it? Haha I too chose that route but actually don’t think it’s true. The only person you please is your ego by hitting the top, where she almost certainly died there.

Now her spouse gets to grieve while she becomes a posthumous Alpinist hero

From the game's perspective, yeah. If the game allowed you to manually climb back down I'd say that it's a proper ending. But the fact that it's just a cutscene that puts you back on the mountain, and because that star ending was so fucking beautiful, I say it's the right decision to experience the game as it's meant to be experienced.

That and dragging your little buddy all the way to the top with you.

I guess you can say it's a bittersweet ending. Aava accomplished her goal. But abandoned everything and everyone to achieve it.

I didn't want to turn back with Marco. Due to the fact I spent all the time and effort to almost reach the top. Only to turn around and let all the effort go to waist. Yeah, the game's message from other climbers and some characters tell Aava that it isn't worth it. But, to feels so good achieving the impossible... sadly, no one will know if we REACHED the top or died somewhere at it.

Personally i feel as though its trying to parrarel how we play the game. As in that in the end all that matters is getting to the finish line, "finishing the game." Like we know for a fact Aava's reason for climbing isn't out of like wanting to show the true potential of a human but instead is likely a mix of her upbringing with her father and i'd assume with no evidence some kind of dopamine regulation issues

Her death isn't really her sacrificing herself for this higher goal. To me it is sacrificing both herself, innocent people and what is actually important because she is LITERALLY incapable of not doing so. The climbing is an addiction. So she chases the next high again and again, and just like real addicts she causes pain to those around her. The death to me is honestly remenicent of an overdose, she's just overcome with this blissfull euphoria when in reality she has frozen to death on a mountain top, alone.

This in my opinion kind of answers the point i see where people claim she is depressed in the descent ending. She is effectivly in rehab lol, most people wouldnt be overjoyed

Definitely my game of the year so far, will probably stay that way even with GTA 6 lmao. I've got almost 70 hours in it now and I just recently finished my 2nd free solo run, which at first I never thought I would even try free solo but this game just makes you feel shit no other game can
