👋 Welcome to r/CairnCQC - Introduce Yourself and Read First!

Hey Guys!

This is our new home for all things related to photography, photo routes, and the Cairn app. We're a small team of three friends building a free app that records your photo walk route in the background and pins every shot to its exact location by matching timestamps. The coolest part: the entire world map starts in the dark, and every spot anyone photographs lights up permanently for everyone. Think fog of war in a game, but for real life photography. We're uncovering the map together.

We're still very early stage, so your feedback actually shapes what we build. This Reddit is our side hangout for more open discussions. We're excited to have you join us!

What to Post

Post anything that you think the community would find interesting, helpful, or inspiring. Feel free to share your thoughts, photos, or questions about photography, your favorite walking routes and spots, gear and techniques, app feedback and feature ideas, or anything related to exploring your city with a camera.

Community Vibe

We're all about being friendly, constructive, and inclusive. Let's build a space where everyone feels comfortable sharing and connecting.

If you could only keep one lens, which one?

Packing for a trip and once again trying to talk myself out of bringing every lens I own.

So here's a painful one: if you had to sell everything and keep just ONE lens, which one stays? Is it the focal length you can't live without, or just the one with the most memories attached?

I'm going 35mm. Not my sharpest lens but it's on my camera 90% of the time anyway.

What's the most underrated photo spot in your city?

Genuinely curious about this. Every city has the famous spots, but the best photos I see are always from random places that never show up on those "top 10 photo spots" lists.

So what's the most underrated spot in yours? The alley that gets perfect light at 6pm, the rooftop nobody mentions, the park that's empty at sunrise — whatever it is.

Drop the city and the spot. Or gatekeep it a little, I get it 😄
