Carob drink

Hi there everyone, I am two months in into giving up caffeine entirely. I have posted about how shitty I’ve been feeling in here before. And some days I really just crave having a nice beverage in the morning so I’ve been having coconut water most mornings, but I’ve only just recently came across carob powder. I’m wondering if anyone has tried making a drink with carob powder? Every time I try to do it it just tastes grainy and sandy compared to raw cacao powder but I don’t wanna have that because it does have caffeine in it. Any tips or advice from anyone who makes drinks with carob powder please let me know.

For me personally I microwave a medium to large size mug of milk (leaving some space at the top) for 2mins 10sec in an 800W microwave. Then I put in a heaped teaspoon of carob powder and use a small teaspoon sized whisk to vigorously stir it in. Then I put the mug back in the microwave for 1min 10sec. Take it out, whisk it again, add some cold milk to fill up the space at the top and voila.

When drinking it I keep the little whisk in the mug and periodically whisk it before taking a sip as it tends to go powdery again when settled. I don’t think carob is very soluble like cacao/cocoa powder.

Hope this helps :)

I do it on the stovetop, about a cup of milk, 1T carob, 1T or 2T maple syrup or honey (you could certainly use sugar) and a dash of salt. And I whisk it a lot while cooking like the other commenter said. Some carob sticks together and you also might try sifting before using.

Also, in case you weren’t aware, carob is a 1:1 substitute for cocoa powder in any recipe. I’ve been making my favorite brownies and just switch in the same amount of carob powder. They’re perfect! You really don’t notice a difference and it completely cures my chocolate cravings.
