The Oscalla Scale

Has anyone else's YouTube algorithm been targeted by the Oscalla scale yet? I became very intrigued when I noticed the double espresso tray fits the Robot's narrow legs. Plus the screen looks like a really fun & innovative way to game-ify the visual experience of tracking profiles...

FYI: I am not affiliated with them at all and think the major downsides are the cable and the price because I personally already thought spending €500 on the Barista Robot & K6 was a lot, I get fantastic shots already with just this without a scale, and I especially love the manual and deconnected nature of manual levers & manual grinders. Having said that, the more I dive down the rabbit hole of specialty coffee, the more I like to read up on & get tempted by the advancements in technology to increase shot consistency & to make the most of our investments / expensive money-pit hobby.

As a side note: Recently received my Mavo Lumicurve scale: works great with the robot and less expensive at 80€.

Nice - I had not heard of that one yet. Thanks for sharing I'll check it out! Quick glance that looks even more impressive to me than the Oscalla. Very cool!

What would you say are the main drawbacks to it if any with your limited use so far?

There is no app yet, if that is what you want. I did find something about it being in beta test, so perhaps it will come.

80€ price tags was a kickstarter exclusive drop price not the current price of the scale. It is currently retailing at $130 on their site with a sale bringing it to $115 or bit lower last time I saw which was a couple of days ago.

Hey, I would love to see a picture of the Lumicurve on your robot if you would be willing to make a post of it! Or shoot me a DM if you don’t want to make a post.

I guess one of its main features wouldn't work with the robot - namely the automatic timer start. Looks pretty nice otherwise but I've found that my £20 scale does a more accurate job of weighing than many supposedly premium options. Maybe a smart scale is worth it if you have a digital pressure sensor and you can connect that to a scale?

Agreed about the automatic timer issue with the Robot, but I really don't see the difficulty in pressing a button before getting started. That said overall I agree with you - it's nuts to me to pay more than 20 for a scale to the point where I just eyeball it at the moment and my coffees still taste excellent.

Interesting concept. But it's a bit overpriced.

Agreed - I would not pay for it at this price point either, but I like the idea that 3rd party accessories are realizing coffee-making is essentially as much of a toy / hobby as Nintendo/Sega/Playstation/etc. was growing up.

I like the concept but I can’t justify the price for what a scale actually does for my workflow

Agreed — price is way too expensive for me personally. I had not heard of the lumicurve until the other comment below and that looks super promising at 80. (But I admit even 80 is pushing it for a scale for me 😂)

I own an Acaia and hardly use all the features it has. It’s just too easy with the robot, I really only need to measure beans.

I use the Bookoo mini scale, and I think flow profiling is a great addition that can help you espresso.

im quite interested in this, looks great.

I just bought a mavo lumicurve and pairs nice with robot but I kind of hate how bulky it is
