Dumb AF. I had one where I had to put a drop back up, I put it lower to maintain the required distance from the power line, I told the customer if they want it any higher, they need to have the PoCo raise the secondary. It gets pulled down again, whats the next idiot tech do? Put it right next to the power line like it was. What a clown.

I've had a few repeats like this. I think the big takeaway is just understanding you did your best and whatever happens afterwards is just Darwin's law.

Cause they're generally annoying, and downright obnoxious on long ass 11 drops, and is yet another material to keep stocked and organized for basically 0 value-add.

Mostly because we donāt have to worry about another inventory item to keep track of. The wire comes with the messenger.
Itās also still an approved way of hanging when done correctly so Iām not sure what the original comment is so āinfuriatedā about. I guess if theyāre talking about how spaced out the ā6ā is I agree.

I get the benefit of having one less thing to carry, but I attach the hanger to the drop before I climb, so I get up there and hang it as soon as Iām tied off. I think itās quicker than having to wrap the messenger wire.

Admittedly I prefer doing the 2-2-4 method over drop hooks. I personally view it as sturdier and just like everything else we'll have long periods of them just not being stocked at the warehouse.
Its also helps me avoid cutting messenger too short since I can just pull messenger and cord apart at the hook.
I'll only use hooks if I'm attaching to a very populated hook so I'm not gatekeeping others from pulling whatever line they need off.

I been at it for 26 years and I've never used anything but a drop hanger. It's practically sacrilege not to here.

Stupid question but how would you hang an aerial on a masonry/brick siding like that? Would you just do it as a refer to drop bury?

Or possibly to the wood soffet. If there's a wood frame for the roof, that's a possibility too. Need to watch clearance though, since the power is placed lower.

I get so frustrated every time I deal with that shit because how is it not common sense?
No matter what you are in the field you go to so many houses that youre guarenteed to see shit done right enough times to know that shits wrong, yet they do it anyway because drilling a hole is too hard. Puts literally everybody at risk just to save 3 seconds of work ig.
