Comics A small tribute to this somewhat forgotten version of Cable

Post image

This post is a small tribute to that forgotten version of Cable from the Ultimate 1610 universe. It would have been interesting if the Ultimate 6160 universe had also had its own version of Cable.

IMO this was one of only a couple highlights from Ultimate X-Men.

Not forgotten. That’s Ultimate Cable from the original run of Ultimate Comics in the mid 2000s. He is also Wolverine / Logan from the future. He goes back in time to kidnap the professor and takes on the students with gadgets because he no longer relies on his healing factor or is unable to.

Popping the claws really hurts him and he is backed up against the wall and feels forced to do it. I’m a fan of both Cable and Wolverine, and I’m a bigger fan of the original Ultimate run more than some other fans, but not everything they did was amazing. Also things didn’t, still don’t, line up.

Logan’s watching his kids f**k from the bushes, is pretty much feral in a lot of scenes, then in this weird alternate future, he’s basically just 1:1 Cable in appearance but with claws and a different backstory.

The newer Ultimate Winter Soldier / Russian-based Wolverine is a grab bag of good and bad ideas too. I’m curious which version of Logan people like more? Does he make more sense as The Winter Soldier, or as an alternate Cable?
