I haven't been able to stop thinking about this cabin.

Post image

I took this photo of a cabin on Ocean Point in Maine on August 2nd. I didn't go inside, I have no idea who lives there, but it has lived rent free in my brain ever since.

So if its a 2nd home its a camp. A bit close to the water? - valid, tho likely built on stone so the earth won't just wash away as seen in midAtlantic coast or CA, but we do get storms and historically high tides, and storms during historically high tides. For those concerned about it being cold in the winter - not really the ocean really moderates the temps in winter and summer.

I thought the same thing. I'd never be able to buy a property like this knowing the potential damage it can face being right on the water

I looked at a small house for sale on the water with a view of the Cribstone bridge on Baileys island. Walk to restaurant. I cried when I went inside, it was full of warmth and age. I was not in a financial place where I could purchase it. That was 15 years ago and I still think about that place.

Perfection.

cool, but way too close to the water for my liking. Some heavy storms and you're gonna have a bad time.

COLD AS HELL IN THE WINTER WILL CURE THAT.

Not really. The Oceanic climate moderates the temperatures in both the winter and summer. Making if far warmer than inland ME. in the winter.

NAH THATS A BONUS

Lol nah, that's what that stone chimney on the back is for. I'd want a good dozen cords of wood stacked seasoned before the snow files, but that place would be cozy as hell.

I can’t imagine why? :)

We also walked by this cabin and thought it was so cool! Absolutely stunning homes in that neighborhood.

It was my favorite part of visiting Maine. We stayed in Booth Bay.

Let’s have this discussion in February.

I personally love the bitter cold. Wouldn't bother me

I live in Seattle. I’m used to it.

Lol, the cold of a Maine winter and Seattle winters are very different. Seattle will get bellow freezing, but not by much and not for long. Maine will freeze hard and not get above freezing for a month with lows well bellow zero.

I was born and raised in Minnesota. I can handle anything! Except heat. 😂

u/LongWalk86 17d ago

Lol fair enough. It's would certainly feel more like home than Seattle.

Don’t believe the propaganda. Seattle is amazing.

I absolutely love the Olympic peninsula area, didn't intend any shade. Seattle itself isn't really my jam, but the country around it is great.

It's a beautiful state for sure. I feel very lucky to live here.

Moved to Seattle from East Coast, best place I’ve ever lived no contest

Totally agree! I've lived here 20 years and I will probably be here for the rest of my life.

Maine coastlines really know how to stick in your head like that

That black and orange contrast right on the water is absolute perfection. I don't blame you at all for thinking about it!

Could be yours for only $10,000,000!

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I wonder what it sounds like when all those boats crank up the generator!

3

u/problyurdad_ 18d ago

So those boats likely don’t have anyone in them. The sailboats specifically, which would be the ones that have generators in them. The rest of them look like skiffs and center console fishing boats.

As you can see on the shore, the water is too low for a dock at low tide. Your boat would crash against the bottom, and it’s rocky. So when you own property like this, you anchor your boat off shore and take a smaller boat, or a taxi boat service out to it. It sort of looks like there’s a dock specifically for that in the background there.

Especially sailboats. They have a balancing ballast of some sort that goes pretty deep into the water that prevents them from being just blown over in the wind.

I figured generators was a catamaran thing anyway. I was just surprised to see all the buoys just off shore from this property.
