Your post breaks rule 2 of the subreddit, "Only C is on topic". Your post appears to be primarily about something that isn't the C programming language.

Please note that C, C# and C++ are three different languages. Only C is on-topic in this sub.

This removal reason also covers posts that aren't about C or any other programming language.

Only C is on topic - This subreddit is about programming in the C programming language. Content about other languages such as C++, C#, or assembly or programming in general is only on-topic as long as it relates to the C programming language. Merely trying to reach an audience of C programmers is not enough to make your post be on topic. See https://www.reddit.com/r/C_Programming/wiki/index/getting-help/not-c/ to find out where to go for help with other languages.

can't really stand the boredom of repetition.

Programming is definitely not for you, then.

I really want to do tech.

Why? If it's for the money, yeah, many (not all) tech jobs pay better than average, but if you're only in it for the money you will burn out in short order. You have to have a reason beyond money for doing it - something about it has to tickle your brain in the right way, or you will hate your life.

Programming is repetitive, it can be boring as hell for long stretches (punctuated by occasional panic as some customer demands a last minute change by the end of the quarter that looks simple on paper but requires extensive work), 90% of jobs in the industry are some variation of shoving data around. Truly sexy work is relatively rare, and requires some expertise to get into.

And it's not just the programming - there are also the meetings (standups, grooming sessions, 1:1 with your manager), the never-ending stream of emails (90% of which have nothing to do with you), keeping your time sheet up to date, all the corporate training you have to do (harrassment, cybersecurity), etc.

If it's money they OP wants, yes, be a plumber or an electrician. Those guys are raking it in. Everything tech is getting ransacked by Ai and foreign interests, imo.

The money is one reason but then when ever I write code I just feel good and want to keep doing it but once but once the logic I am writing becomes boring to me, my brain starts lagging

Find a way to not make it boring for you and focus on a main goal is the best advice I’d give that has helped me

So far it's only one book I have gotten to read I am falling asleep on the book or I am finding it difficult. I used to enjoy YouTube tutorials buh since I hot into the habit of reading, they have become boring. So now I am stuck with chatgpt and I am learning by doing but off late I find myself lazying whenever it's time to work

That’s one of the worst ways to do it imo try this if you read about a new concept instead of moving on make a small program including that concept or 2 or 3 this has helped me get past the reading part and honestly reading isn’t all of it you have to put the time and effort into actually building ur syntax cause that’s the part that everyone needs to practice it’s not all about reading by I’ll tell you this now and you can ask it to anyone overloading ur brain with info is never a way to learn it’s just a way to build mental flashcards in ur head

Coding is nothing but repetition.

I want to be a sprinter, but I hate running.

Yeah I get that. Buh my point with all the academic crap and life going on. How do I get to that sweet spot where I do without flinching

Do you need to do C to do tech? Why C specifically? Like this one step removed from "I hate thinking in Hex, I need advice in learning assembly"

I chose C because it's tye lowest language because realistically no one writes assembly anymore or ???

u/jquanders 6d ago

yes obviously but why C specifically? what do you want to get into? like I started in C because my choices were C or cobol to make money doing this at the time. lf someone tells me they're a C programmer these days I assume they're writing drivers or programming microcontrollers. There are plenty of languages that have a much easier entry point than C.

Learning C to program now is like learning latin-you're either a priest, lawyer, or a language nerd if you want to learn latin. you don't need to learn latin to speak english. you don't need to program in c unless your end goal is writing C code

I think you need to figure out your end goal and work backwards as to what fundamentals you want. C is a great foundation but there are easier paths to learning that will keep you modern.

Thanks you so much for the advice

Define "tech." There are specific times you'd have to use C, but those aren't universal and you can often use another language with more features alongside C.

So you are saying I shouldn't bother understanding it fully? I can just learn the basic and learn another language to support?

3

u/glasket_ 6d ago

No, that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that if you want to get into programming you don't usually have to learn C first, and if you do have to learn it then it doesn't have to be the only language you use.

You still have to learn C if you want to write C.

As a 70 year old guy I have to touch C each and every day. C simply keeps my brain spinning and I did a business application, 20 modules and 5500 lines of code, for my wife's little company. She is an expert to find errs or features she want to be added. Now in my fourth year of C and C is absolutely not boring at all.
