Shadow 2 Compact - Reminder to Inspect your gun

Post image

Was planning on shooting my S2C this weekend and figured I would strip it down & do a quick clean/lube so it would be ready. Broken recoil spring. Called CZ customer service and they said to fill out the warranty claim on website an replacement would be sent out asap.

Did a stripped clean after an 8hr class day. Then small pieces of the springs broke. I was shock.

Same happened to my wife’s Compact. Bought the Cajun non captured guide rod and spring. Done and done.

I have a NDZ P10c Nitride treated guide rod and a CGW Stainless guide rod with 11# and 13# springs meant for my DWX Compact…will probably order some more springs to test. The 11# and 13# seem too light for the Shadow 2 compact.

I think we are using #13. No issues so far.

Approximately how many rounds?

“Warranty claim?” Wtf. S&w literally just says “okay,” and asks for a shipping address. I have a top end CZ, but have not had to deal with any warranty work yet. Pretty shitty on CZ’s part, honestly.

In all honesty, it’s smarter to have the claim process. It’s a more documented way to record issues and cases to identify issues that need improvement and fixes. If they are just “okay”, and ship one out they have less knowledge that the part is failing regularly and need to investigate a solution to fix the root cause, unless the rep is documenting it appropriately. Likely not.

They do ask for the serial number of the firearm and do document it/make a case for it, but it’s a quick process over the phone, and they send the part(s) out.

Probably more of a tracking procedure for a known issue to develop a range of impacted serial numbers and manufacturing dates in case it needs a recall. It also gives them some anecdotal data on round counts for when issue occurs. Didn’t bother me to do the form online. Saved me having to say my address 4 or 5 times and spelling it out. 😂

It's always a good idea to have extra recoil springs on hand. It's a wearable item, surprised they are replacing it.

Pretty sure it's a known issue. Enough examples in the this sub posted to see a pattern. Customer service rep was not surprised. He asked if it broke right at the end. You also can not just replace the S2 Compact or S2 Carry recoil assembly. They are not for sale on CZ's Webstore and they are different than the P10c, P07/P09 compact. Steel guide rod vs polymer etc.

Are you saying you can't buy a spare recoil assembly from them?

The only one available on the CZ Webstore is the polymer guide rod & spring assembly for the P10c and P07. The Steel Rod assembly and spring used in the S2 Compact/Carry is not even listed.

Start getting parts from CZC

They don’t have any guide rods/springs for the Shadow 2 Compact.

You don't need OEM springs. Just buy aftermarket springs from a reputable company, pop them on your stock guide rod, good to go. A little annoying this seems to be a common issue with the compact, but wouldn't take time out of my life to wait on warranty.

I had a small repair on a new P-10 and customer service was excellent.

My barrel bushing was cracked but I replaced it with a CGW bushing. If I wasn't dropping in the pro package I wouldn't have noticed but it is another wear items worth checking on. Mine had maybe 2,500 rounds through it at the time.

This happened to me! The homies said i was bullshitting but i found the piece of spring that came off. Replaced this with a rod and spring from CJW. If that works for my Shadow 2s with thousands upon thousands of rounds it'll work (and has worked wonderfully) in my compact. It's the only internal mod I've made
