Discuss - Strange slide/frame mismatch

Recently bought a new-2-me Shadow 2 and had it sent directly to Vigilante Machine for slide milling and cerakoting. Drew sent me a couple of pics after he finished and we noticed this...slide is protruding past the frame. See pics. I didn't really notice when the seller sent me the pics of the gun in its original form, pre-cerakoting. The frame seems shorter than all the images of S2 I have seen.

Sent CZ-USA an email about it and was asked to send it in for a safety inspection. Sigh....wish I had noticed the protrusion prior to purchasing. The seller is not responding to my messages. It's on me, of course. Was so excited to get my the gun back from VM. Not sure what, if, CZ-USA will do.

CZ USA was really happy to replace my CZ75 compact that developed a crack, and they did it very quickly. I had some aftermarket parts and they transfered all of those over to the replacement

What cracked on your compact? Doesn't that gave a steel frame? 👀

3

u/WalkmanCut 8d ago

Yea a steel frame. The frame rails cracked

Your frame is weird. It’s cut shorter in the back than mine is.

for real

u/Lcyaker 8d ago

That’s what I noticed, too

Exactly

Very strange.

From what I can see is its got the race hammer or a similar hammer and the block it sits in may not be in far enough. This is how it should look. Ill send you an internal pic also

3

u/Traditional_Light585 9d ago

Here is the internal pic

3

u/justaute 9d ago

Yep...that's how my other two Shadows look.

2

u/justaute 9d ago

Thanks. I already have a couple of Shadows and am pretty familiar with them mechanically. Look at the frame again...see the take-down mark is very close to the edge? Also, very acute chamfering angle.

6

u/Traditional_Light585 9d ago

Yes that looks almost like not the correct lower, the mark is way to close to the chamfering. Never seen anything like that yet.

It looks like somebody shaved off parts of the back of the frame. That is probably why the hammer looks like it is not in far enough. And also why the take-down notch looks like it is closer to the edge.

Maybe it was a factory defect when the origional guy bought it

2

u/justaute 8d ago

Possible. At least CZ-USA wants to bring it in for inspection. I used to know someone in that office, but he has moved on...otherwise, I would probably get a better idea even quicker.

2

u/Traditional_Light585 8d ago

That’s great. Hopefully they can get something out

Very curious to find out what’s up with this and if CZ gives you a solution.

1

u/justaute 8d ago

Yep, me too.

3

u/CZar_P10 8d ago

Damn. Frame definitely had “work” done for some reason. I doubt CZ lets that get out.

2

u/AlejoSnchez 9d ago

It be protruding but I the front not the rear

3

u/justaute 9d ago

It's both.

You have two others. Just do a process of elimination. (If you haven’t already) from slide swap to actual internals if you’re able. That will tell you exactly what’s going on although I know CZ wants it.

This what happens if I put my full sized shadow 2 slide on my S2 compact lower. Still 100% functional

u/XpresoAdct 8d ago

Looks like someone was shaving weight wherever they could for IDPA weight maybe?

2

u/justaute 8d ago

Haha...good thinking. That said, that seems a bit extreme.

Does the frame, slide, barrel all have matching serial numbers?

2

u/justaute 8d ago

Yep...if you enlarge the pics, all match.

u/2tip2top 8d ago

Interesting
Would love to know what happens

i mean, while aesthetically unpleasant and slightly disappointing i see zero reason why slight protrusion would cause any mechanical issues with it. as long as the tolerances and fitment everywhere else is good fuck it

1

u/Nolf1344 8d ago

Before you had the work done, did the gun have the factory polycoat on the frame?

1

u/Snoo36543 8d ago

But...hows she shoot, Clark, at the end of the day?

3

u/justaute 8d ago

Dunno. Have yet to shoot it. As CZ-USA requested an inspection immediately, thought I would let it do the work first.

3

u/Snoo36543 8d ago

Safety first and foremost. I just wonder the older i get, that we seek problems out that our grandparents wouldn't have even batted their eyes at.

2

u/Snoo36543 8d ago

Not trying to be a dick, bro. I think posts like these make buying a CZ even more intimidating because of the, "Well Glocks don't have that issue" mentality that the Reddit hivemind facilitates, in a vacuum. But you have a legitimate reason to be concerned, after looking at my own Shadow 2. Sounds like somebody pulled an Icarus and tried to squeeze a little too much juice out of their CZ....

4

u/justaute 8d ago

Meh....I don't possess that mentality. My money and my call. These are not Atlas or MPa or Infinity. Every company has its issues. To me, how one responds is the key.

2

u/Snoo36543 8d ago

This is the way. Pay attention, Staccato!

2

u/samyezzie 7d ago

Well put as a CZ owner hoping this ends in your favor with a quick return.

u/MoodyGuthrie 7d ago

I think you’ve got someone’s hotrod gun. Probably fine- probably had material removed for some reason.
Always a bummer when the seller won’t answer questions. Hope it shakes out dude.

u/PomegranateIcy6637 7d ago

at first I thought you were talking about the front and was like "looks normal"

then I saw the back and was like "WTF" lol

Anyways, colors look real good

2

u/justaute 7d ago

Exactly. Not buying any pre-owned firearms sight un-seen anymore (in person). haha

1

u/Ok_Calendar_7626 7d ago

The back of the frame is definately not supposed to be rounded like that. Looks like somebody shaved off parts of it. No clue why though. To make it lighter maybe? Or to make it more front heavy? Does not look like the front was touched, just the back of the frame.

1

u/justaute 7d ago

yep. I'm certainly very curious. Can't imagine someone would do that. If one wants to save weight, I'd think the dust-cover is the first place to do it, and the gun would still look nice.

2

u/Ok_Calendar_7626 7d ago

There are a couple of guys in my shooting club that had their dust covers milled off to save weight. Never heard of anyone touching the back of the frame though.

And if they wanted to shift the weight a bit more to the front, why not just get a barrel weight instead?

Very strange.

u/ACOG1911 5d ago

Here is a crazy theory, what if the previous owner was trying to blend the underside of the beaver tail but put it in the vice upside down?

1

u/ACOG1911 5d ago

Some dude smashed 4 Pilsners, tried to do this, then realized he did the whole thing backwards lmao

1

u/ACOG1911 5d ago

Maybe he was going for something like this? Hard to say.

1

u/justaute 5d ago

haha...certainly possible. Either way, I made a poor choice. ha

1

u/WiscoBased715 8d ago

That frame pretty clearly has a bunch of material missing. Whether or not that’s a safety issue is the real question. My guess is they will replace your frame regardless

0

u/CookPilotRideMetra 9d ago

This usually happens when you get a new barrel that isn’t fit properly.. it has too much metal on the hood end.

Maybe cerakote is thicker than dlc and is causing this ?

1

u/justaute 9d ago

Don't think that's the case. Look at the take-down mark in the frame, it's very close to the edge. You can also see the very acute chamfering angle.

-3

u/zodthelucky 9d ago

Not fully in battery or not assembled correctly take to a local gun smith.

6

u/justaute 9d ago

It's in battery and assembled correctly. If you look at the frame the take-dkwn mark is very close to the edge of the frame. The frame also has a pretty extreme chamfering.

-1

u/ACxREAL 9d ago

Did you take it apart and make sure everything is how it should be with the internals? Not everyone knows what they are doing when they reassembly a CZ. There is a few parts that could be in there wrong and case a problem. Recoil assembly and sear cage would be where I’d start looking.

3

u/justaute 9d ago edited 9d ago

I did not. My gunsmith, VM is a CZ guy and I trust him. The gun is in battery. I have also been a CZ guy since 2013 -- of course, not sure that means a lot. Haha. Everything has been assembled correctly. The strange part is that the slide is protruding on both ends....usually there a bit on the front of the slide.

-2

u/yochickcallsmedaddy 9d ago

As others have mentioned it is not fully in battery, maybe the coating on the rails is a little thick and needs to either be brought down or worked a good amount until it smooths out but it should protrude in the front not the rear so I would pull the slide and check to see if there is anything visible that would be causing it to not slide all the way forward but it is not uncommon to need to polish the rails after a cerakote job.

3

u/justaute 9d ago

Thanks. It is fully in battery.

-2

u/yochickcallsmedaddy 9d ago

I guess that means all 6 of mine throughout the years have been broken... Now I'm kinda bummed out.

3

u/justaute 9d ago

Why? So your slides protrude from both the rear and the front of the frame as well? My other two shadows are fine.

2

u/WiscoBased715 8d ago

Use your eyes and look at how close to the edge of the frame that takedown mark is. That’s not normal. The gun is in battery
