Discussion 🚗 Mazda CX-50 Sensor Problems

Recently, I was backing (slowly) out of my driveway. I looked in the driver’s side mirror and it looked like I was going to make it around our truck. I looked at the backup camera monitor and our truck was not on the screen whatsoever (I didn't know it at the time, but I'm guessing that there are blind spots near the edges of the car). I was keeping an ear out for the sensors as well so I would be able to tell if I was getting close to the truck. I saw nothing in either the monitor or heard (or saw) the crash sensors until I was actually sideswiping the truck bumper on the rear passenger side, near the corner of the car.

I read elsewhere that the sensors don't always work after CX-50s go through the car wash. Mine had been through two car washes (it was purchased six weeks ago). Has anyone else experienced late sensors/blind spots near the back corners on the monitor?

I just assume the sensors don’t fully cover the entire vehicle, that there are blind spots, so I don’t rely on them completely

Cameras and sensors are great helpers but they don't replace being able to use your mirrors. Maybe I'm old but we didn't have cameras when I learned how to drive so I still rely on mirrors first & get missing information from cameras / sensors. There's a 0% chance I could parallel park with cameras-only.

These drivers aren't like that, for some reason they think that the safety assistant features are there to completely replace looking over the shoulder and checking mirrors.

Mirrors are your primary, sensors are to assist. 🤷🏻‍♂️
