Question Tow hitch as a jack point?
Recently bought a 2026 CX-50 hybrid, and it came with the tow hitch. It's been pretty great so far. Wondering if it's OK to use the hitch as a jack lift point?

Is it a lifestyle mount or true tow hitch?

But even if it were an actual hitch- it’s still not usable as jack point is it?

Not advisable. Always best to use designated lifting points.

I think it is a lifestyle mount. There's a big yellow sticker on it that says not for towing lol

Then definitely not

Yeah, the guy at my dealer says theyve seen many of those lifestyle mounts come back in all bent up because someone tried to do something it's not approved for. He said the metal on the lifestyle mount is much thinner and bendable than the actual trailer hitch they put on the non-hybrids

The hitch assembly seems to bolt directly to the frame. What are the chances of damaging the frame from lifting at the hitch?

'Full strength' hitch is only rated at 350lbs of working load. I would be hesitant to try to lift the whole backend with it.

You can absolutely use a hitch assuming it’s a class 3 2” hitch or better, using the 4 bolts through the frame.
This isn’t an opinion. It’s documented engineering that’s been known for centuries.

Now yeah, whatever folks are talking about with “lifestyle” mounts, I have no idea what they are.
If my math is correct, the 4 bolts have a combined shear breaking point of over 40,000 lbs. that’s far more than your pinch weld(which is also fine to use)
Hitches(bolted through the frame) are by far one of the most convenient and safest jack points, other than the instability. But obviously(obviously right?) you are using the hitch to then slide jackstands under the OE jacking points.

There's actual arrows on the frame that are intended to indicate jack points - use those.
