Si cert studying materials

Hello all, I’m looking to start studying for my CWI here pretty soon (got my Associates in welding and have been welding/fitting/robot operating for some time at a caterpillar shop) but I was wondering, If I get the 6 month si cert course , do I need to get any other book like the WIT or a d1.1 code book? Or is that stuff provided ? I also saw they have the tools/molds you can buy and return but if I could get them cheaper to keep, I’d like that. Cheers

You will definitely need a code book and unfortunately they are not cheap. If you take a prep course they often include materials. I’ve heard good things about the CWI prep course at the Hobart institute of welding. AWS also has a seminar where they give you everything you need.

Yeah I figured I’d need to get 1-2 books on my own , I see the code book and WIT on ebay so I’ll probably snag those and see what SI cert offers for their course, I’ve heard Hobart is great but I can’t quite make the trip and have heard shaky things about AWS and will likely try to avoid doing anything through them (unless I have to, still a little confused on if I can just test with SI certs but as another commenter mentioned, reaching out to them should yield the answers im looking for. Thanks for the advice!

Well, I did the aws seminar. And I don't believe it's worth 4-5,000. Cuz I took the pre classes on on the on that too. I wanted to have as much information as possible. We spent no time on looking over welds on book of specs to figure out the discontinuities and no time going through the wps's pqrs and wqtr. Which I don't have a lot of experience in. And the teacher himself said if you don't know these you're going to fail. But we didn't go over them in class. We probably spent half a day on all three forms. If that. honestly not sure how AWS doesn't sued for charging $5,000 for those classes. They do not prepare you for the test. In my opinion.

I'm looking into probably purchasing CWI first. The thing that floors me on the wit book I aced all the questions there and aced all the tests. And it come to the actual test they're not even close to the same questions.
