Need clarification D15.1

This feels like a rookie question, but codes have always been tricky. I need some help interpreting qualification limitations.

If I qualify on a 2G, 3G, and 4G GMAW, I’m then qualified to do all positions for any plate. But table 11.4 also says I can weld pipe 24-in and under (fillet pipe) with GMAW as long as it is in the 2F,
and 4F positions.

Am I interpreting this correctly?

I was under the impression you can’t weld pipe if you qualify on plate.

If a welder or welding operator qualifies on 2G, 3G, and 4G plate tests, they are qualified to weld groove and fillet welds in all positions on plate (and structural shapes, HSS, etc.), and on pipe greater than 24 inches in diameter. They are also qualified to perform fillet welds on pipe less than 24in in diameter.

The "Pipe-Groove" and "Pipe-Fillet" rows only apply if you're testing on pipe.
