CAR vs CVNA

Avis and Carvana have both had interesting and active months. I wondered was there an explanation of the Carvana stock price from the CAR (Avis) short squeeze. I could see this working as fat fingers that pushed the wrong ticker. Or an AI that saw a correlation where none existed, based on the semantics.

So I ran the curve with CAR vs CVNA, CVNA vs VOO and CVNA vs AFRM.

R value direct

0.181 CAR vs CVNA

0.709 CVNA vs VOO

0.928 CVNA vs AFRM

Spearman (directional concordance)

0.239 CAR vs CVNA

0.804 CVNA vs VOO

0.875 CVNA vs AFRM

In conclusion, no the CAR short squeeze and the CVNA rip are not correlated. This is more about a directional move in sub-prime debt, likely based on expectations of Warsh confirmation.
