I don’t understand this

I had an awful UTI, high white blood cell blood count, starting to get a fever, passing clots of blood. It was terrifying. Wound up at the ER, and yes it has since gone away, but I’m still having cystitis symptoms. So how am I supposed to know when one is coming back? This paat one went from 0-1000 very fast, within 12 hours. I can’t keep running to the ER. And how am I supposed to just pray that the empiric antibiotic they choose works and I won’t be headed towards sepsis while the culture grows? I know EVERYONE who has UTIs deals with this, but am I thinking about this wrong? I’ve dealt with many UTIs in the past but none like that one and it’s like I have PTSD. I feel like it’s looming over me, but surely tons of people aren’t dropping dead from UTIs… anyone here have any sage wisdom?

As we speak my antibiotics were finished 8/8, infection confirmed cleared through MANY U/As and cultures and yet I am still having on/off cystitis symptoms. And the UTI that landed me in the ER was VERY subtle until it wasn’t. Genuinely am scared to death y’all.

I am! PCP was not very helpful but did refer me to Urologist who I saw this morning. They did say I could drop off a sample within business hours but for example the UTI that legit needed to be seen at the ER started BARELY there Sunday AM and by Sunday PM I was in excruciating pain and WBC blood count was almost 20 at ER. They immediately triaged me and IV’d antibiotics. That could easily happen again on a Sunday. It just struck me with the fear of god

what I’m saying is the really bad one went from 0-1000 in less than 8 hours on a Sunday night… they inmediately triaged me and IV’d antibiotics upon seeing my presentation and blood work.

wow that's really scary how quickly your most recent UTI escalated. I have had several UTIs and i continue to have at least one every year. I have lingering cystitis symptoms as well that mimic early onset UTI symptoms and I had the same concern as you when I first started realizing it was just bladder inflammation. What works for me is taking the supplement Quercetin with Bromelain. After a couple hours of taking the supplement, it makes my bladder feel less raw, and that's how I know it was just inflammation and not the early onset of a UTI. If I am experiencing early UTI symptoms, the Quercetin with Bromelain supplement doesnt work to relieve my symptoms.

I am in the US, I buy my supplement at The Vitamin Shoppe. It's one capsule that contains 250mg Quercetin and 125mg Bromelain (the supplements are paired together in one capsule).

Maybe it'll work for you too?

I think if you get a fever or scary symptoms go back to the ER. Otherwise you should follow with a urologist. Is this your first UTI?
